As above I have my music stored as flac and in the past converted some of them to add to Apple Music using iTunes Match, so just wondered if anyone found a better way to do this ?

If you've got your own music collection then use a third-party app. The majority of my music library (a fair few TBs) is FLAC and i use Foobar and/or Museeks but there's plenty of other apps around like Colibri, Dopamine, Audirvana (paid), Swinsian (paid) etc.

ATM trying Plex amp and it seems to work bar not downloading music, should have said music is stored on unraid

Roon is a good alternative to blending your own library with streaming. Only supports Tidal and Qobuz as streaming services. But you can even take your library out of the house via Roon ARC.

Plexamp and it seems to work bar not downloading music...
What if you use Plex(/PMS) web gui, are you able to stream the music ok with that? If not, then look at PMS logs and see any errors jump out at you.

As long as the share is mounted then you can import the collection/library into most music apps.
