Any way to improve speed? Sky

What i have done now is.....

From sky ethernet 1 - upstairs - to old linksys internet - from old linksys ethernet1 to pc.

Now this effectivly gives me 3 more wired connections in my bedroom. So now i have my pc hardwirred and when i get another 3 meter ethernet i can have my xbox360 hardwired and ps3 aswell correct?

I can still login to the sky router with its ip adress as normal.

Can i log into the linksys router at all?

Are there any other benifits to this apart from giving me 3 more wired ports upstairs?

Ive got to admit i did not expect it to work, didnt even touch any setting.

Disable DHCP on the Linksys.

How? I only seem to be able to log into netgear. Also why would i do this?

Since plugging in the linkys i still get full speed download but youtube wont load videos and im having to right click links and 'open in new tab' ?? Strange huh?

just had sky installed.

currently using their sky hub.

Broadband Link Downstream Upstream
Connection Speed 4089 kbps 605 kbps
Line Attenuation 38.5 dB 22.4 dB
Noise Margin 8.6 dB 16.16 dB

do i need to wait for the line to automatically connect higher?

i am roughly 1 mile away from the exchange and this speed seems really porr for someone so close.

the engineer installed a new "master socket" with a brand new wire running from the loft into this socket.

he also installed a brand new wire running from the loft to where all the wires go.

therefore i have brand new wiring inside and up to the house.

so is it a waiting game now? or should i consider buying a 3rd party modem in order to get faster speeds through snr tweaking? ideally do not want to do this as i will only be with sky for a year and i already have 2 cable routers waiting to be connected back up when i switch back to virgin.

Yes.

They start DLM at 4Mb/s and gradually increases the speed over the next 10 days.

Also you should ignore 'as the crow flies' distance estimates between you and the exchange as the cable run can be a lot longer (I'm less then half a mile away from my exchange, but the attenuation is telling my that the line is over 2 miles long).

However, I'd guess that I can get a lot more speed out of my connection if I put that 0.5dB noise margin tweak in (as long as it works on the sky issued sagem router).
