hi,
fed up with that ribbon thing. even after a year i always forget where stuff is hidden in excel and word. anyone know if theres any way to make it look like office 2000 or whatever?

You can't enable "Classic Menus" like you can with Windows, but you can customise the toolbar (ribbon) until your little heart's content.

Click the Microsoft Office Button (upper-left corner), and then click [Excel, Access, Work] Options.

Yeah I seem to recall the developers specifically didn't want users to have the option of "classic mode" as it would have side-stepped most of their efforts.

What difference this made to them after you've bought the thing anyway I'm not sure but I assume it's part of their long term interface strategy. Just look at Paint in Windows 7.

The best thing to do, however painful, is to learn to use the new system - yes, it will take some time, but it's actually one of the best things the office team has done and I find using word much quicker now.

It takes a bit of getting used too, but once you do its miles better :)
Agreed. The organisation of the tools is planned out well.

I like it too, the first time I used it I found a feature that was present in 2003 but I'd never noticed because it was buried in a menu. I can't recall exactly what it was but I just remember thinking it was an interface 'win'.

I'm currently evaluating it for work, but that's another kettle of fish.

Time and time again people at work ask "How do I make Office 2007 look like Office 2003".
Time and time again I send these people away, tell them to take their time and learn The Ribbon.
They usually come back to me 1-2 hours later and confirm it was time well spent!

The Ribbon is the most impressive change to Office in a very long time - learn it, because the interface is going nowhere.

It is indeed far better than the old menu interface. I imagine it can look quite daunting with so many tabs and buttons, but it's far easier to figure out where things are than it was with the myriad of menus and extra windows that the previous versions of Office had. Once you're used to it, it's far quicker.
