Hi all,

Seeing as the 5830's are due in the next few days (supposedly) I was wondering if anyone had managed to find any more info on them? With less than a week to go I was expecting a preorder

Cheers,

Someone must have heard something about these? We're getting close to the release date! Only reason I ask is necause my 8800GT has just gone **** up and I need a new card- 5770 looks good to me but if the 5830 is gonna be significantly better and not much more expensive then I'm happy to wait a little bit....

$239 is hardly bad, if true, and it might be cheaper, remember it will likely have a decent supply as with things like the 4830/5830 they've been slowly building up a decent supply from salvaged parts in every wafer.

It shouldn't go through launch quantity then crap supply issues in the same way the other cores have so prices should launch at RRP, which puts it at around £160. Considering the 5850 isn't shader limited and seeing as its a 5830 and not a 5790 its likely to have lower stock clocks, lower shaders but the full bus and most other bits. Meaning if they overclock well you'll be looking at very good performance. Even if the 5830 does drop to shader limited area, finally, its still obviously not as crucial to performance this gen as clock speed on the rops. So, maybe some big if's, but IF it can overclock very similarly to a 5850, it could be an absolute killer card, very close in performance for £160 or so.

There might be a huge supply of them that never really ends up going out of stock so we might never see the price gouging and if they stay in stock after the first week or two, we might even seen retailers fighting for sales, well, we can hope.

Doh I thought I'd resolved 5770 vs 4890 (and decided to go for the 4890). Now I have to think 4890 vs 5830! Anyone have any idea how they ought to compare on price/performance?

Liam

to be honest, get the 4890 if your not bothered about DX11, a single 5770 just dosnt cut it with DX11, crossfire strugles:eek:

? When I had a single 5770 it played Dirt2 at 1080p max details with AA no problem......

Now I've got another in Crossfire the things fly.

I wouldn't comment on things you clearly have never used.

Your deluded, i have crossfire 5770's as per my sig, i play dirt 2 at 1680 x 1050, i know it cant handle the game smoothly at ultra settings which is DX11, i have tried it and for the game to be perfectly smooth with 8xAA, it has to be set to high which is not DX11.

I wouldnt comment on things you clearly have no idea what your on about, you may think you have a 5870 beater but if your honest with yourself you know im right

IMO unless you have to buy today the best option is simply to wait & see.

I have not seen either definate spec or definate prices and until then who knows. Further we do not know what , if any , price adjustments there may be to existing cards as a result of the launch.
