I had my heart set on BD but after the dismal performance ordered 2500K and Asus P8Z68 V/Gen3 which should arrive tomorrow.

Seems plenty of sites now have them except OcUK,hopefully OcUK will get them in stock soon.

Yep! I'm also waiting to see if OcUK manage to stock them for a competitive price.

Kind of torn between the -V and the -V Pro. Leaning towards the -V, though, since I think the Pro is the same except for DTS audio and a couple of extra SATA ports, which I don't think I'll really need. If there're any other differences I've missed, I'd be grateful to anyone who pointed them out.

V Pro also has has onboard firewire connectors and comes with extra USB 3.0 rear bracket that plugs into the onboard USB 3.0 plus reset button onboard too.

Nothing extra there I needed so went with V/Gen3 since has everything I need, got mine for £132 inc VAT so very happy :).

I was thinking of a 128GB M4 for my system drive, but £140ish is a bit steep (well... far, far more than I've paid for a drive before!). I then thought of the 64GB version, but I can't get past the fact that it seems so small for a system drive.

Is there are difference between this and using it as an SSD cache for a mechanical drive? I'm not familiar with what that means, tbh.

Nope, my experience of P8Z68-V Pro was that it was poor, the first one had a bug with jack sensing with the Realtek drivers telling me that I'd plugged something in randomly, got it replaced but both had electrical noise (interference) in the onboard audio based on cpu activity.

Maybe I was just unlucky but IMO avoid if you don't have a separate sound card.

ASRock Extreme 4 Gen 3 is much better in my experience, bear in mind I'm talking about the non-Gen 3.

I'm using ASUS DX Xonar sound card, anyway I'll let you guys know how it goes tomorrow with luck.

Asrock Extreme4 Gen3 was my second choice for what its worth.

Just to let you know got my Asus P8Z68 V/Gen3 board installed, working great :) ,no issues and boots every time on first boot:)

Installing software at the moment and typing this post ;).

Just need to order a video card later for gaming, guess I check out OCuK specials :) .

Will do....I've just setup my ssd as cache drive which is working fine ,still loads of software to install lol...My Asus Xonar DX is working fine as well also no issues so far with onboard Intel lan :).

I will be getting one of these for my build in the Pro guise as i think id prefer this to any of the ASrocks. I was wondering though has anyone seen a sign of the Deluxe version?

I also just bought one - will arrive early next week and also getting a 2700k to pair it with.

Looking forward to a newish build (upgrading my q6600 system)

HardOCP have review the normal Asus P8Z68 V board, they got a great overclock result.

I still got a great result but I was unable to take the processor further without throttling it. Still it’s hard to complain about a 5.04GHz overclock. So despite being a budget board it sure as hell doesn’t overclock like one and the P8Z68-V will in fact do what any other board in the series can do performance wise. As always, some CPU-Z and Sandra screen shots are provided for viewing.

5.04GHz (103.0 x 49) DDR3 1600MHz

Dan's Thoughts:

What’s not to like about this board? From a reliability standpoint it was identical to the other boards in this family. Rock solid and stable as hell. From the first minute I put power to it to the time I boxed it up the thing just worked. Yeah it’s fairly stripped down compared to other boards in the series I’ve seen. However that’s part of its beauty. ASUS included its superior voltage design and all the power phases. It’s got everything you need and nothing you don’t. Even though I call the board "stripped down" it’s really still very well optioned. A quality Intel NIC, an eSATA port, SATA 6G, and USB 3.0 support etc. If you do need more features then obviously you should look to the higher end offerings in the board family. On the other hand if you are looking for overclocking prowess, excellent stability, and quality in a simple and affordable package then you really should look at the P8Z68-V. You won’t be disappointed.
