Anyone at uni doing essays a query

When I was at uni they would tell us what style they wanted an assignment in (essay or report). Essays without sub headings. Reports with sub headings.

I've used headings in academic essays and have done very well in them.

I'd imagine every department in every location has a slightly different policy.

EDIT - saying I did very well in them sounds pompous, I meant I didn't get criticised in them for putting headings in.... meh

Simple.

Writing for academia = no headings.

Writing for business = headings.

Very simple

Surely your build documents are procedural technical documents rather than essays though, a little different
