Anyone been to Calgary / Banff ???

nice! my flight was more than 3x that alone!

i drove from calgary to Vancouver island and then into America, loved every minute of the 3 weeks i was there.

there is a small town just down the highway from banff, begins with C they do some awesome beer and ribs there.

there is also a large mall in calgary in which has a firing range, you can fire a mangum 44 for a small fee!!

Woah sounds well cool !! that beer and ribs sounds awesome, did you fire a magnum?

I got the deal from hayes travel it was mad because i got an email through from them saying £266 all inc so i rang them and they said sorry it has gone .... then when on the phone she said oh wait a min they have cancelled !!! :D

Im only going from the 16th 9am arrive at 11am to the 19th (night flight) but still a good deal !! all inc also !!

I did similarly a few years ago but flew back from Vancouver.

Town with a C, Canmore? I stayed there for a couple of days, nicer than Banff imho...

Calgary is a bit of a dump, but Banff is OK. If you are staying in Banff then make sure you try Bumpers - a steak house as I have never tasted steak like it before - amazing, its opposite the Banff Inns Hotel.
With regards to the boarding, its wicked, you have to catch a coach to the 3 resorts as they are in protected areas, so no ski in/ski out,
Lake Louise - Good for beginners/intermediates, some nice wide runs and good back bowls
Sunshine Village - wicked off piste and Goats eye has some awesome double diamond blacks.
there is also some good heli-sking if you have spare cash.
Apres Ski is nothing like europe, they haven't quite got the hang of it yet, but there are enough bars around to have a few good nights

The thing I loved more than anything is that you get to the top of the mountain, can see the base far below and just point your board and go, if they have a decent amount of powder, (which they do), routes down dont really come into it that much, go where you like as long as you are good enough..

Have fun

Banff is small but good. Lovely scenery (obviously). Lake Louise should not be missed even if you don't ski there. Just walk out the back of the Lake Louise hotel and marvel at the scenery. If you want a change from skiing and have the time to do it, I can also recommend the Rocky Mountaineer trains.

Banff is my favourite place in the world and im pretty well travelled. Both summer and winter season offers you so much to do and both very different.

One year i spent the most amazing summer camping around the national park and spending a lot of time in Banff and Jasper then went back again in the winter for the ski season and was just as impressed.

It is obviously different from european skiing but I kinda prefer it....its not so "motorway-ish" as some european resorts and you find yourself skiing through trees etc which doesnt happen often in europe.

We usually stay in the Banff springs hotel its pricey but well worth it - very nice. Calgary is a dump so dont worry when you land there and think its bad because it is lol. Its about 2 hour drive from calgary to banff but you drive up and through the mountains so its not a boring trip unless there is a blizzard then theres not much to see but it does mean new snow wooo! lol.

Anyway you'll have a wicked time...im jealous lol.

Been through that area about four times now, only ever in the summer though.

As said above, the scenery is stunning especially around Lake Louise and between Banff and Jasper.

The Rockies just make you realise how small any hill in this country actually is!

Banff is an awesome place :)

The skiing/snowboardinga s already stated is awesome too.

I'm jealous now :(

I've just returned from a weeks holiday in Banff (5 hours drive from my house :)). Banff is approx 1hour's drive from Calgary, might be a bit longer by coach but the views are amazing so the journey is very good. The tri-area ski pass can be a bit pricey (about $80 per day) but it does include transport to the mountain. Buses to the mountain cost $15 return if purchased separately and lift tickets are about $77 for the day at lake louise and $60 at sunshine (if you pick up a discount card from Canadian Safeways). Norquay is handy because it's very close to Banff but the runs are short.
