Anyone care about motion controls anymore?

Mario Galaxy would be a worse game with any other control method.
I can't agree with that, I think Mario would have suited a GC controller much more. The Wii controls were still good, but could be better, there just seemed to be some thing missing.
I ended up selling my launch day Wii after 3 months because I quickly got bored with the controls, and I was a die hard Nintendo fan back then.

Other than not being able to hoover up star bits - which becomes mildly obsessive after a while - and shoot enemies, the controls are no different to using a pad

Galaxy is a good example of motion controls being used almost invisibly - quickly and accurately stunning enemies without effort, or even really registering what you're doing. The same is true when controlling Yohsi in Galaxy 2 - something as simple as selecting which enemy you want to munch with the wiimote wouldn't be possible with a pad. It adds a whole new layer of control and precision.

Even after playing the RE4 Wii Edition I don't really miss the motion controls on the 360 version of RE5, but its hard not to care when you look at Microsoft discontinuing the wireless wheel and focusing on motion control.

couldn't really give two hoots about motion controls. i game to relax, not get worked up.

the wii has seen a couple of hours use on metroid trilogy and wii sports, but other than that its gaining dust.

I've been playing MAG with the Move controller a lot lately and after an initial period of getting my head around it and fiddling with the settings it's an absolute revelation. It's not quite mouse control, but it's really close.
(You play it sitting down btw)
I think Killzone 3 will probably refine this even further, so I'm looking forward to it even more than I was.
Motion control definitely has a place in hardcore gaming, it's just down to the developers, they need to make sure it's implemented properly in appropriate games.

I used to be a massive sceptic, I'm really not the sort to prance about in front of my telly like a pillock, nor will I ever be.

Once you use a motion controller with sports game like Tiger Woods or a tennis game etc, you can't go back to using a gamepad for these.

Thats where the motion controller excels.

hhmm I like some games on the wii but hardly ever play it... dunno why really.

Maybe I'll give the move a miss for a while until more games are out for it.

Personally I won't be bothering with it either. My sister has a Wii that just sits underneath the TV collecting dust, at first we played on it all the time but after the novelty wears off then all the appeal is lost. I don't even see myself using this on more grown up games such as Resident Evil 5 or Killzone, I really see no point in it whatsoever. Gamepads work fine for me, I've never been in a situation where I think to myself "wow this is great, but only if I had a plastic sex toy with a glowing ball on the end, that would make my gaming much more pleasurable".

Going by my experience with MAG, the Move most certainly enhances FPS games, a flick of the thumb may well be a tiny bit quicker than a flick of the wrist, but the slightly clunky analogue stick, with it's dead zone, is no match for the natural fluidity of the Move.

See, I disagree with you there, I think if you practice using something for long enough you manage to become proficient despite it's theoretical downsides.

It personally never attracted me, my little sister has a Nintendo Wii and I never liked the thing. I like to sit down and have a good time/experience gaming, I don't want to be waving my arms or doing things 3-4 times before the controller responds. Personally I think it's a gimmick and I hope that it fades out soon. I guess kids like it and to be honest, there isn't a huge market for them in the xbox and ps3, you can't give a 9 year old Mafia II, Dead Rising 2, F1, Gran Turismo, Halo or even some sport games.

It's funny how people are basing their motion control experience through the wii.

As mcwildcard has suggested, I bet you a good aimer with the move would pawn a good aimer with the dualshock on mag or anyother fps etc.

As usual I don't think it will be until the next generation where we will see the true advantages of the motion controllers.

And I just get the feeling that the majority of people who don't like motion controllers are to lazy/unfit to operate them. :p

Hmm, while I respect your right to an opinion I do not agree with what you are saying. I think that's a bit of a sweeping statement to make when you say most people who don't enjoy motion controllers are either lazy or unfit, even if the comment was a little tongue in cheek, which I think it was to be fair. I just find them gimmicky and I'm not fat or particularly lazy, it just boils down to personal preference and I don't think that these motion controls will be the future. I found the Wii incredibly unwieldy for certain games and the only games it really worked on for me were the on rails games which are totally linear, even games like Wii Sports are absolutely linear, Dead Space: Extraction, The House of The Dead. For example, I don't see a Metal Gear Solid 4 type game working with Move, there are too many buttons to press, maybe that's why Konami are going with a completely different approach to the new spin off game which is coming out soon?

It is down to personal preferance, off course.

Personally, on certain games using a motion controller does add a difference in terms of gameplay and realism.

It is too early to judge the motion controller 'era' and just because people are dismissing them at the moment, doesn't mean they will not be around come the next generation of console.

Motion controllers are here to stay and they will only get better in terms of technology and with the devs improving these games for use with the motion controllers.

I was being 100% serious about some people being lazy/unfit to use them, hence why they don't like them. :D

If they are going to be the future then they need some refinements as at the moment all Move is, is a replacement for the right analogue stick except it takes up your entire hand.

Sure, for fps etc you will still need to use the move navigation controller to move the character etc.

But again, if it improves on the gamepad over accuracy and realism, I really don't see the problem.

Anyway, it won't be long until the mind motion controller thingy is out, where fps etc will be controlled purely by our thoughts.
