Anyone changed a power distribution board before?

Ah... i keep on seeing 666 lately, my (now) previous post count.

I don't know details yet all i know is what i said..

Power Distribution board?

I have heard of PSUs and PDUs (Power Distribution units) but never PDBs... at least not in a server.

Sounds more like a fuse/switchboard thing.

Sure you are not talking about a Voltage regulator module (VRM) that sit inline with a CPU?

Some servers do, like the Dell PE4600 (off the top of my head)

They have 2 power inputs at the back connected to 4 PSUs in the front, the PDB connects the 2. Never had to change one but removed one from said Dell when it caught fire the day after decommissioning (seriously) - it was the PDB that caught by the looks of things.

Its pretty involved but like everything in servers, its just a case of removing all the components around it, making sure you remember where everything goes :)

Will probably take you an hour or so, so make sure you've got enough of a window for downtime!

We had to do it a while back on a very old Dell server.. Was fairly straight forward, just a bit of unscrewing and removing things, slotting the new board in and connecting it up and it was good to go! :)
