Anyone developed an interest in sport in later life?

Got into Formula 1 last year, then Sky took over and It's utterly pointless me getting it as it's the only sport I watched religiously and I often hear people who have Sky complaining there is nothing on.

this season I've only really seen Monaco and that was pretty boring race.

Depends on how late in life you are talking about :)

I only started watching Rugby when I was 27
Started watching Formula 1 when I was 24

I stopped being interested in the NHL, MLB, NBA and NFL around the age of 25

I watch motorsport occasionally but that's about it. Most other sports bore the hell out of me, although I'm liable to develop an interest in women's athletics in a few weeks time :D

Is it being broadcast in 3D? :p

Participating in or watching?.

Participating in - Road cycling and mountain biking. I hadn't cycled since I was a kid but at age 36 I decided to take advantage of my Cycle to work scheme and got myself a nice Pinarello road bike. I can't believe I left it so long to get back on two wheels ( although I've been riding motorcycles since I was 18 ). I was completely hooked and my fitness has increased accordingly since I regularly use it for my 36 mile commute.

And then just when I thought it couldn't get any better, I discovered mountain biking. Mate of mine had been harping on for ages about me trying mountain biking but I didn't fancy it. Eventually gave in and a couple of years ago bought a Cube hardtail and visited my local MTB trails. It's even better than road cycling!!!. Again, it benefits fitness and because of the differences between the two disciplines your fitness increases in different ways. I'm 100% hooked on riding trails now. To such an extent that the superbike I own has done hardly any mileage in the past couple of years. Every time there is an opportunity to get out and ride in good weather I'm off with the MTB racked up on the back of the car and the Mille get's left on it's paddock stands. Again. :)

Watching - Going hand in hand with the above, MTB's and all of the grand tours, The Giro, The Vuelta, TDF etc. Been watching MotoGP, World Superbikes and BSB for years.

In terms of watching, I didn't start watching Rugby until I got older. I used to play Rugby in school but at the time I didn't watch any of it. I enjoyed playing matches against other schools, but I don't think I had the same appreciation for the sport I do now and that the teachers obviously also had. Wish I could go back and change that!

In terms of participating in sport, I took up Road Cycling about 3 years go. I've been into Mountain Biking since I was a kid, but just never saw what the appeal was in Road Cycling until I bought a road bike!

I developed an unhealthy interest in women's beach volleyball in later life if that counts?

Good to know im not the only person with that pencilled into my diary when the Olympics come around.

I was massively into sports in my late teens early twenties then a string of injuries and real life came about. things are sorting themselves out, so hopefully next year might try and take up a martial art and/or 5 a side.

As for watching sports, with football only watch major tournaments, same with rugby. Got into F1 a couple of years ago also.

I am 23 and not a big fan of football, but I like watching the big matches like Euro. Shame my country team is already out.

Got interested with F1 few years ago, watched all of the races in the last 2 seasons but I am not following any of the teams, just enjoy watching these V8 engines running at high rpm

I'm 26 but in the last few years I've grown a big appreciation into the tactics of sports, I love football and had a season ticket down Leicester city but I actually enjoy watching Match of the Day for the defence break downs which Lee Dixon, Gary Lineker and that scouse guy go on about.

F1... well never before have I been so bothered about tyres but crikey this season I'm literally hooked about those pit stops... thrilling stuff!

I did play a lot of football but with dicky shins I only play once a week now which is more than enough for me.

I used to love watching football and used to go see Hull City play 5-10 times a season. Now however, I just get thoroughly bored of watching a dull 0-0 play out in front of me and wondering why I'd spent a lot of money on the tickets.

This only really happened when I started watching Rugby League, soon after football paled into insignificance to the point where I really don't care if football is on or not. I even get bored of watching the Euros. I don't want to prod the hornets nest with this, please don't reply with flaming comments, its just my own opinion, but in my eyes rugby league is 100x more exciting than football ever is.
