Anyone done BODYPUMP ??

I struggle to imagine a scenario where you've managed to get too muscular from your exercise regime.

No, I just don't want to end up looking like those people that cant stop looking at themselves in the mirror. No matter how much muscle they have they are still butt ugly in the boat race.

I need more fitness and strength.

I do running as well.

I used to do it and really want to get back into it. For me it was just right. I didn't really know my way around all the weight machines in the gym and felt that I was only working on specific muscles and possibly doing more harm than good.

After a few months of Body Pump I really felt the difference. I am a very long way from being the fittest person out there and am quite overweight, however this class mixed with some of the others like Body Combat I felt gave me good results in a short amount of time. I went from being able to do a few press ups (like 4 or 5) to 25 in about 8 weeks. Now I just regret stopping last summer as I have all that work to do again and I know I was so much stronger :(

Your posterior chain can generate enough force to propel for your entire body into the air. With training, it can lift 200kg weights. You might improve your endurance, and probably your strength if you currently do absolutely NO exercise, but lifting a 10kg barbell for an hour three times a week is not going to make you stronger.

And sorry, but not wanting to gain muscle because you don't want to look like the posers at the gym? That's like saying you don't want to do martial arts because some martial artists use their skills to bully and intimidate people.

Edit - By all means, go to body pump though. If its more than you are doing now it'll be good for you. Don't come under the illusion that it's making you more functional than "real" exercises would.

a lot of people rate bodypump, its not something that i would do personally (it doesnt match my goals) but be sure that it would make me a lot fitter!

a quick point, a lot of the 'posers' are looking in the mirror to monitor their form, check progress and sometimes look at the lovely lady on the treadmill/xtrainer while thinking that nobody can see them looking ;]
