anyone else get a cheque of my tax man today?

I always have to chase them up, I should be due one this year as well.

I normally wait until after the end of the financial year though..but as you guys seem to be receiving them already I guess I'll give them a call tomorrow..

Got just under 2K about a month ago for the years 2007 to 2009 which was a rather lovely surprise. I was temping at the time and my agency were appalling with tax codes and seemed to change them on a monthly basis

As far as I know Revenue and Customs have been doing a massive audit for the last 6 months or so, it seems quite a lot of us were on inaccurate tax codes!

I will get the £140 per year rate, and have worked there since 2007. So its 20% of the £140?

Correct.

The £140 is a tax allowance not the amount of tax you save.

Each year you would pay tax on £140 less income so as a 20% taxpayer the amount of tax you pay is reduced by £28.

How do you get these? Do you just ring them up and get them to check your tax code, or will they just send them

I believe the current letters are for up to 5 years previously because of the audit that HMRC are doing. If I'm right on that then you shouldn't need to do anything and they will contact you - what I think A2Z is talking about is the normal annual rebate that you get if you have overpaid on your tax for whatever reason.

However there's probably no harm in contacting HMRC anyway if you think you are due a rebate.

I sent a letter asking them to adjust my tax code due to washing provided uniform at home last week, should get around £600 from the last few years! Maybe even more if they take my old job into account.

Just have to wait and see!

I got my tax code adjusted but never recieved any money back. I claimed for the last 6 years also.

Yep I just called them 2 minutes ago, was told I just need to call them after 5th April and they will get a cheque sent out straight away for £700 :)

I had 1 saying i owed them some ridiculous amount in the thousands and that i was working 2 full-time jobs.

After waiting 35 mins on hold they finally realised some other employer somewhere typo'd their employees NI number and it went onto mine.
