Seems like it's a false positive and patched in the latest defender updates.

It put two root certs in quarantine but just wondering as it's a false positive if to restore them or not?

Yup I got the same, seems to be nothing to worry about. Almost pulled out the full wipe and reinstall before I came across a reddit thread with similar issues.

Yeah, I about fell off my chair thinking i'd got a virus.

Did you leave them in quarantine? I restored the two certs on my PC and my daughters

Trojan:Win32/Cerdigent.A!dha alerts appearing on May 3, 2026, are widespread false positives generated by Microsoft Defender. A faulty security intelligence update wrongly flagged legitimate DigiCert root certificates as high-severity malware, leading to quarantined registry entries and possible connection issues. [1, 2, 3]
What to Do Today (May 3, 2026):
  • Update Microsoft Defender: Immediately update to Security Intelligence Version 1.449.430.0 or later. This update includes a hotfix to stop the false detection.
  • Do Not Panic: This is not active malware stealing your data, but a false alert involving system certificates.
  • Restore Certificates: If Microsoft Defender has already removed the certificates (which may cause website browsing issues), updating your signature definitions and restarting your computer should resolve the issue, as Microsoft is working to revert the changes.
  • Verification: You can check the DigiCert official website for confirmation on the legitimate certificates.

I’ll reinstall them the next time I restart my PC, should be tomorrow. No issues today anyways.
