Anyone else had BT Infinity sales calls?

not had a sales call yet, due to get it early JAN. if its worth the money i may invest.

my estimated results:

24.1Mb download
10.0Mb upload

whats all this talk about the cabinets? is it those green-ish boxes? if so mine is about 10 meters away from my front door, yet i get slow speeds?

Because the green cabinet 10 meters from your front door is connected to your towns exchange by old copper still, its that copper thats being replaced with fibre.

Id expect you to get at least the 40/10 if you are that close to an upgraded cabinet.

the BT site says my exchange is due to be done but doesn't give a date. But my exchange already has virgin. The problem is that no-one has run the fibre from the exchange to our area so I have no idea if BT are going to do that. I hope so. Having an exchange that supplies ADSL, Virgin Fibre and BT Fibre and only being able to get ADSL is going to suck.

From what info i can find we aint getting this in Blackburn, and where i live (new housing estate) a BT engineer was telling me that fibre has been taken to green boxes but its not for data :s So i'll just have to stick to my 2mb (which is pretty dire in this day and age for the price i pay for BT option 3).

I cant imagine they would waste the money running fibre to the cabinets unless it was for data. Even copper is more than enough for just voice.

Is this for definite? I live in the sticks just outside of Blackburn and was hoping we would get it.

Funnily enough,

I phoned BT a few weeks ago to ask if I could move down from standard ADSL option 3 to Option 2 - as my old 18 month contract had ended last year sometime (so I would save nearly £10 a month, have the same speed - just have a monthly usage of 40GB)

The nice lady on the phone then decided to offer me Infinity for the same price that I was paying for my option 3 (only I would have to take a new 18 month contract, and have an installation fee)

Now why didn't they just let me know about that weeks ago - instead of confusing me over the phone with it once I threatened to give them less money for their services ????
