Hi,

I know it's not been released yet but I'm quite excited about the upcoming new Polo GTI, I've always loved the Golf GTI but for me it's grown too big. From what I understand the Polo will be getting the 1.4TSI engine producing around 180hp and will be around 7.5% lighter than the current model, should make for a fun drive, anyone else considering buying the car or have any additional information?

Note photo is of the Polo SEL with optional 17" alloys, not the GTI

I think it looks pretty boring. Will be interesting to see how the thing handles though.

To be fair I should have stated that the photo isn't actually the GTI model, it's actually the SEL model with optional 17" alloys, so I'm sure the GTI will look nicer!

Prolly a good idea to post a GTi pic :p

Yeah I know, but unfortunately I can't as the car hasn't been released yet, although I would imagine it will look very similar to the Golf GTI, just smaller ;)

I'm just hoping it will be released in time to take advantage of the car scrapage scheme, otherwise I very much doubt I will consider buying one. I mean buying a new car is a crazy thing to do (from a financial perspective) but at least the £2k off helps to absorb allot of the first years depreciation.

Yeah I read that article also and just dismissed it as, it even goes on to say...

"In performance terms, VW engineers have worked hard to extract up to 280 hp from the Polo’s diminutive 1.4-liter twin-charge engine."

However considering the new Seat Ibiza cupra has the same engine and that produces 180hp I'm pretty sure it's a safe bet that the Polo GTI will get the same power output.

I really like the shape of the new polo, its looks much better in proportion than the Golf, everything flows quite well and it pulls of the expensive small car look very well.

It's a VW Polo. Without exception every previous version of the Polo 'GTI' has been a crud drivers car so why would it suddenly change now? Yawn, can I have a Clio 200 or something instead please.

Plus it'll be what, £17-£19k when it comes out? If you have that sort of money to spend on a car and chose a Volkswagen Polo you need your head looking at, quite frankly.
