anyone else know someone who's had a baby over the past week

I dunno, without all the drugs I bet its one of the worst parts. The rest of the birth is aided by the body moving the baby into the best position then opening up naturally to allow the baby out.
The tearing is exactly that, a very sensitive area that rips rather than allows itself to grow to aid the baby out.

I have no idea but when we were doing the tour of the local maternity unit last week the midwives mentioned it was abnormally busy that night (Thursday) for the time of year and they were all trying to work out what was happening 9 months ago.

That would make it the end of April which could be when people go on their holidays and get more sexy time in.
