nickrose your Mini is immaculate!! Very nice! Which model is it? Looks fairly near the end of the line?
Busy contemplating whether to buy one, very tempted. Would run it alongside my current car (54 plate Ford Focus) and surprisingly insurance is only ~£270 on the Mini (thats with 0NCB as they're on the Focus and a flood damage claim aswell)
How do you (or anyone) find the reliability of Rover Mini's. The one I'm currently looking at is a '91 Mini Cooper 1275cc Carb. Any thoughts?
Thanks,
Its a 1998 Rover Mini Cooper Mpi.
Cost me £5000 around March 09, and have spent a lot more personalising it.
I think running it along side another car is a good idea, Minis are now considered classic cars, even the last production Rover Minis, sp therefore come with the usual classic car problems.
Saying that the parts are relatively cheap and in plentyful supply.
Many, many forums and local Mini clubs, so expert advice is always available.
Many people prefer the Carb version as your thinking of getting. I myself prefer the injection models - horses for courses.
The bits of advice I would give to anyone thinking of getting a Mini are:
1. Read, Read and Read some more. Web, Haynes anything to gen up on the car.
2. Talk to local enthusiasts and get their views.
3. When you decided on what model you want buy the best example you can find and afford.
4. Make sure either you are capeable of doing repairs or you know of a local garage that has experience working on Mini's, preferable recommended by a Mini owner.
Insurance vairies so much, I am paying around £300 at the moment, fully comp, 7 years protected no claims. It is due in Febuary so will be looking at Classic insurance with agreed values.
Anyway good luck with your purchase, you'll not regret buying a good Mini there so much fun. I love mine and I use it as a daily drive.
