Mines having issues so I'm looking to do a pot tweak on it to get it reading discs properly again, it's 2 years old so it's no longer in warranty and I don't really want a new 360 as the rest of it seems fine...

Has anyone done this and had success?

I have one that 30% of times says a game is a DVD then does not play it, reboot a few times normally solves it, but is a pain, its still in warranty though so not wanting to open it up, or send it back just yet LOL

If you haven't modded it in any way then you can still send it back to MS and get a repair as they extended their warranty to three years. Thing is though, I'm not sure if this only applies to RROD. However, I think if you were to send it back anyway and claim that you got 3 RROD then, when it wasn't actually, that you would get a refurb. Reason: sometimes XBox360s will RROD, customer will complain, then when it arrived at MS it might start working again. It's not that uncommon for RROD'd consoles to suddenly start working again. It's a bit intermittent in a way. So, in simple terms, I would call customer services and claim I had an RROD. Not honest, but then again, it's a bit pathetic for an electronic device to suddenly stop working after only 2 years.

Why would I wreck a perfectly good machine? Lasers weaken over time, it's a fact, look at the PS2 laser.

The problem with this is they may just stick a new mobo in and send it back without even looking at the DVD drive.
