Anyone ever recieved a NIP for exceeding SPECS limits?

If I remember right specs cameras weren't approved to monitor multiple lanes so drivers change lanes after passing them to avoid being caught. I'd imagine the number of fine from specs is low because of this reason and as already mentioned, generally high compliance rates.

Wrong, they do interlink between lanes now. They have a camera on every lane, removing this problem.

Although I'm happy for you to go on the M6 roadworks and prove me wrong, post the ticket up after! :p

This used to be the case and was widely publicised at the time, but since then the underlying software has been altered and changing lane doesn't fool the system.

I always seemed to get overtaken in SPECS areas - I set my CC to 50mph (GPS) yet people are still doing 10-20mph more than me... It happens daily. I always hope they get a ticket (because I'm a grumpy sod).

I've got no problem with people doing silly speeds on the motorways but what really annoys me is people who power through 50mph roadworks. They should make them more accurate if they're not catching the people they're supposed to do so.

Admittedly it's ridiculous enforcing the 50mph limit when no one is on site and some of the stretches are ridiculous to the point of stress, even WITH CC if you have it.

Me and 2 mates drove up to bedford a few weeks ago for a track day and one of my mates got done !!!

I love specs, just for the idiots that brake before the camera, then shoot off after it

the whole concept of average speed is clearly wasted on them :D

It won't be funny when the jobsworths (or environmental morons) who run his country have them on all the major motorways.

I don't see a problem with specs enforcing the 70mph limit on all motorways, I'd also be in favour of variable speedlimits on them having seen how much both improve traffic flow at peak times.

I do 70mph is a ridiculous speed to be driving in this day and age on a motorway.

I can't remotely agree that variable speed limits work in the slightest, at least from my experience , if they are on its a case of:

60 limit - slow moving traffic with people stamping on the brakes by the gantry's to avoid tickets (further ruining any steady flow)
50 limit - even slower moving traffic further ruined by lorries wanting to maintain their speed so weaving in an out of lanes 1 & 2 to cling onto 51mph
40 limit - sausaged, basically a 20 minute traffic jam
30 limit - utterly fisted, 30-60 minute delays

I'm sure there is some theory to contradict me but everyday on the M25 if I see those gantry's light up with a limit, i cry RL tears

Being confined to 70mph would be hell.

The only thrill from Motorway driving is occasionally putting your foot down on a safe stretch.

It's 70mph purely for environmental reasons and the fact there is such a dispersion in car quality. Most modern, decent cars - which are also well maintained - can travel much higher speeds safely and economically. Not sure I'd want 17 year old boys driving clapped out ill maintained tin cans at such speeds though.

I doubt enviromnetal reasons is the main factor, infact I doubt it even factored into the thought process when the limits were set back in the 1700's

I seem to remember 55mph is pretty economic ergo green that would be a much more sensible flower power limit

Of course not but it will be a contributing factor as to why they haven't been raised since then.
