Anyone expecting a letter from 02?

My friend was with BT years ago and got a letter through the post one day telling him to stop downloading films via P2P, they even listed the film names he'd downloaded. He quickly switched provider.

Another mate who's on Orange has just been prevented from visiting Piratebay.

That's why I'd never sign up with a 'big name' ISP for my broadband, they seem to be the only ones targeted by this stuff as it's easier to make an example of their customers. Smaller, less well known companies can't really afford to lsoe customers by p*ssing them off with this guff.

I'm currently with Be Broadband and when I signed up with them the T&Cs basically said whilst they don't approve of illegal downloads they won't monitor you or hassle you about it (in more formal words obviously). They were quite small when I joined but are bigger now but still not a high street name. If they ever bow down to this kinda cr*p I'll switch to someone else.

Who are owned by O2.

Forgot about that, they bought them a long time after I'd signed up. Still, being owned by them and being run by them aren't the same thing.

Can't say I've downloaded any of Mr Dover's films but as soon as someone can come up with FTTH service in my area who isn't a big name I'll switch.

All ISPs share the same infrastructure. It's not like they come around and lay new cables and and fit a new exchange when you change providers.

Obviously I meant common infrastructure like DSLAMS, DNS, DHCP servers etc. not rented cables and exchanges. I have o2 broadband and my reverse DNS is a bethere.co.uk address and my static IP is 'owned' by Bethere.
