Are these any good?

Found a W reg, 80,000 on the clock, for £2,095. Personally, I think the price is about right.. any thoughts on these, in particular, the spec on this?

Only corsa ive driven is an 06 plate 1.4 petrol. Steering was very vague, driving position was rubbish, clutch was very 'different' and it gave no confidence to throw it about at all as you had no real feel in what the car was doing.

I drove a 1.2 '05 plate as my learning car. Can't really compare it to anything as i've never driven anything else! I'm struggling to think what car i can get on a £2.5k budget at the moment. The insurance on the 1.7D was £1100, which wasnt bad.

I'm also learning in a corsa. I've had a go in several other cars and none have been quite like it. I'm not experienced enough to say they are rubbish, but certainly differant.

There are plenty of cars out there better than the corsa, it may seem better to buy what you learned in as a first car, but long term i think you're better off getting something else.

Insurance is high mate, get a smaller engine. A Micra fits the bill, will be cheap and reliable.

(ahem) I've got the 1.7 Dti Corsa Sxi. It's on an 02 reg.
It has about 72 Bhp.
CD Player
'Bucket' Seats
'Fancy' Gearstick and steering wheel with buttons.
This month it's been doing about 52 MPG. It's quoted as doing 60 MPG.
It's just 'okay' to drive.
It makes all the right noises, but doesn't go anywhere fast.
The oil pump has had to be replaced as well as the steering rack.
The washer switch also had to be replaced.
It's group 4 insurance.
I agree with Stellios.
Other than that, parts and tyres and servicing should be cheap.

Cheapest i've had quoted was £900 for a dreadful 900cc fiat panda, so £200 more isnt gonna kill me for a better engine :)

Is this the older style corsa, and i assume then the engine is a non turbo diesel.

Have u looked at quotes on 306 or xsara so something like that?

I was quoted £977 on a 1.6 306 XS, but i'm struggling to find any of these at the moment! Any car i see that i think i'll like, turns out the be an automatic  :(

I got a combo van, based on the corsa 1.7 dti goes ok up to 90 ish (private road) handles like a boat, bits fall off regularly it is a vauxhall after all, great spec for a van aircon, cd and electric windows i kinda enjoy driving it 75 bhp a bit of torque over 2 k nothing below

Jus passed my test 3 months ago n learned in a 1.2 corsa like a lot of peeps here. I just bought me a 306 HDI D Turbo for my 1st car (£1995 off the fleabay) and got best quote of £545 fully comp (with pass plus, £645 without). I would recommend you look at the 306s and also Adrian Flux insurers whom I went with in the end as a new driver :)

Why a 1.7D?

No particular reason, the website i was browsing had hideously overpriced cars, and saw this one for £2,100, thought it was quite reasonable, but you always think "there must be something wrong with it to be cheapish"

I drove the 1.5TD (1998), this is a faster engine than the 1.7D. And it really was poor in comparison to my 1.6 306 at the time.

Engine wasn't that bad, but the corsa just wobbled around on rough surfaces and understeered like crazy - awful chassis.

Not recommended by me i'm afraid.

Be patient when looking for a car and look everywhere, this is a good time of year to buy, there should be lots around at reasonable prices, 306 is a much better bet than a corsa...
