Sorry to hear about Max, I know exactly how you are feeling as we had our beloved cat put down a week and a half ago and I cried like a baby.

Aw I saw this thread last night, just came on again this evening and looked it up to see how he'd got on. I used to have an alsatian cross called Max. Sorry to hear you lost him. You must be devastated, hope you are your family are doing OK.

Thanks for the replies people.

Had the vet on the phone today, he believes it may of been a brain tumour that caused him to go downhill so fast, that would tie in with him having random 'off' days or even hours and being fine the next i suppose. Would also explain the random development of epilepsy at 8 years old as well.

Worst thing about it, Tia the cat in the photo with him just keeps wandering around the house trying to find him.

Really sorry to hear about your loss. My best mates dog died which he'd had since a it was a puppy and he was about 5 years old not too long ago. He was so distraught. Frustrating that theres some inappropriate and unnecessary comments in here too. People should show a bit more compassion and thought for others.

Take pride in the fact you were wise enough to look after him when he needed it, right up to the end. When you have finished grieving you will be able to enjoy the years of happy memories with the lovely pooch

You have all my sympathy Jon....he looked a beaut.
We lost our 13 yr old cat to bowel cancer on Monday so I know what you're going through.

Not long got in from work and we've finally had his ashes returned from the crematorium, been trying to keep a brave face on it for the missus but its just made me feel like crap all over again...

I had to take the family dog to be put to sleep last week. Very difficult time for everyone, so I totally sympathise with you. I found that thinking about him when he was at his best made me feel better.

Good advice. Maybe you and your wife could do it together Jon, get some photos out, make a fuss of the cat who misses his pal, and laugh and cry together.
