Just wondered what they are like? I currently have a 1.5td corsa and its not too bad, id just like something a little nippier.

The quiksilver looks okay on paper, good MPG, okay BHP, good weight to power etc, plus ive checked insurance and its good.

Thanks folks :)

The quiksilver i find was quite a slow car for a 1.4! As most 1.4's are normally 16v where as the 106 is 8v. The GTI though is a complete different machine :D These cars handle exceptionally well too

I drove my mates 106 Quicksilver quite a while ago and found it to be immense fun in all honesty, i only had a little session in it but throwing it around some tight country roads made me grin like it was christmas again. They aren't fast but you can have a lot of fun in them and still keep (way) out of bannable speeds :D

Not really, my brothers old west coast saxo (same engine as quicky) was a nippy fun car. Yes the gti is ahead by miles but for a 1.4 they go well.

Don't buy one that's been lowered though.

Well unless its been done properly. I.e rear beam done properly not by the splines method, had rear ARB end plate seals replaced when disturbed etc. Also using cheap shocks doesn't help.

The problems you had with yours were probably also due to age and mileage as well as being lowered on a budget.

Ive got a Quiksilver and its a great little car, not going to set the world on fire for speed but it handles great and looks nice. Just watch out for leaky sunroofs!

Will be selling mine soon as it happens ;)

This is true, but through reading all the various 106/saxo forums on the net, the vaaaaast majority of punters just want their car lowered for £100, and "I'll get the shocks done later when I've saved up". So they inevitably use cheapo springs, and get the back lowered on splines. It was very rare I ever remember reading a thread where somebody was going to spend £500 and lower their car properly.

Personally, if I was to buy a 106 GTi again, I'd not buy one that had been lowered - so that's the advice I give out.
