Anyone got Talk Talk Broadband???

Yes, i have eventually, its just went active 15 mins ago, and im going to tell you not to bother unless you want to have no hair left with stress. We were orgininally told we would be connected on the 16th July, and we just got it today, enough said? Their customer service can only be described using words that are banned on this forum, as for the internet line i dont know yet as ive just got it. So far im getting about 180kbs download speeds, but im presuming thats due to the 10 days line test thing adslmax does?

Got mine about 2 weeks ago!...

We were innitially told the broadband part would go live End of August!, So End July was a bit of a shock!...

As I'd already set up the account stuff (Changed my Password to summut I can humanly remember!!, Online Billing, Email, Website etc...), When I cam to installing the modem, the setup got a bit confuged!, and told me it couldn't connect (after the initial line tests it does, which were OK), so I phoned the helpdesk, got through after holding for 3 minutes, but whilst I was on hold I thought I'd have a play and fired up Firefox and got straight onto t'interweb at 1.1Mb (My exchange ain't too hot!!)! , still spoke to the lady when I got through (thought it'd be nice as I'd probly never get through again!! :D ), and she told me evrything was working fine... blah blah!...

It does drop the connection every once in a while, but I just re-connect no probs (*well see later!!),

Though if you manually disconnect, the modem stays connected, but windows thinks its not!, which can cause problems re-connecting as windows can't initialise the modem as its still on another session!

*The only problem I've had happened last Friday!, I couldn't get connected!!... At all!, I was constantly getting an error 721 (or summut!), so I tried the help desk line!... which (due to high demand) kept hanging up on me, this is because they don't have enough staff!, the call is 10p/minute, a computer calculates its gonna be longer than 10 minutes to get to your call (£1.00) and wants to save you money! (Fiiiine!!)... Anyhew, I tried over and over!, and the wife kept trying when I went to work!...

She phoned me about 9:30 to say the message on the helpline (Robot Lady) had changed to say "For those experiencing 'Error 721' Please be advised, there is currently a line fault and an engineer is currently fixing this, Please bare with us and we hope to resume normal broadband services as soon as possible!"...

So Obviously they'd had a lot of people whit the same problem and got fed up of the helpdesk being congested with people on hold stopping other problems from getting through!...

The wife phoned again at 12noon, to tell me it was back up and running (still at 1.1Mb), and its been going fine all weekend!...

I know people who use BT etc... that have had worse outages (one of my mates was off for a month and back on his slowdem!), and never get through to their helpdesks (ever) and still bang on that BT (or who ever) is the best (blah blah...) and Talktalk is carp!...

If you just want to surf, Mail, Build a website, Download a few piccies/mp3's, watch the odd episode of top-gear/two pints of larger etc.. its not bad!... If you want to Watch Full movies, Download millions of albums, Play CS (or what ever) etc... its probly not for you!...

Me I fall into the first group!.

Ill outline my experience with them for anyone of interest :)

Originally we got told a connection on the 27th July, which we thought was fair enough. At the end of June we got sent a letter requesting a MAC code, by which time we had already cancelled our previous ISP so couldnt get one. I rang the outined number on the letter and explained we dont have an ISP due to cancelling it therefore cant get a MAC code, he then said ring your ISP and get one (docile fool). Later that day my dad rang them and eventually got through to someone that could understand a geordie accent, the guy ran a test on the line and confirmed there was no ISP on the line and said we would be online by the 16th July, which i thought was a nice surprise. But i had just a little too much confidence in them.

On the 17th July, the day after our said connection date i contacted them about it and was told it was going to be 21-28 days, which was almost 3 weeks later than the originall specified date. Due to me not being the bill payer i just said thanks and hung up, but when my dad came he spent 1 hour trying to get onto someone that could sort that. To get through to someone that could solve a problem, we had to ring the carphone warehouse, not talktalk and evetually got through to someone useful. The guy said he would prioritise us and we would be connected within 10 days, but someone would ring us back to confirm this. The next day a bloke rang back and said 10-14 days to me and also said if we are not connected within that time then get back onto them, which i thought was fair enough. Guess what, 14 days later and nothing, so we were back onto them and we were told another 1-2 days for connection, ran over again eventually 6 days after the 1-2 days i have an internet connection, albeit through my router and we have no startup pack yet and know nothing of email details etc.

Great fun, they make tiscali look like a 5 star service.

If you have the login and password, usually your phone number and a stupid (hard to remember) password just log into Talktalk's Website and set up your 5 mail addresses, Online billing (they charge for paper ones!!!) and website etc.. from there!... its easy!...

plus I recommend changing your password to something you can remember!!

and if you want them... the upload settings for the 15mb webspace are:

Host: ftp://www.{your prefered site name}.talktalk.net
Login: {your prefered site name}@talktalk.net
Password: ********

You'll then end up with summut like http://www.simaline.talktalk.net/

Its a great place to host photo's using fireFTP for forums such as here!! :)

my dads girlfriend has just got it

same issues as stelios, told they would get 8meg, then lines and start dates kept moving, then said that only the telephone line was available and that they would have to pay for a bb service that they would not get for 2 months

they are connected now on a 2meg line, most I have seen it run at is half meg speeds, plus it drops out quote a bit...

not great although they have just moved from dial up so it seems fine to them

anyway they are now locked in for 18months so nowt they can do really

personally if you value a solid connection I would not touch it, but having said that the usage limits appear fair and even generous for the minimal user, if you like the call plan as well then it may be for you

just don't expect to play games at sub 20ms

Think i would rather pay £25 pm for something that i know is going to work. ;)

Honestly people would sign up for anything if it said 'free' on it.

So far i have no complaints with the connection itself. Its running a little slow at the minute but its going fast and slow and changing speeds a lot (between 1-2mb so far), so im presuming its the exchange doing its stuff in the first 10 days, at least i hope so or i will be quite annoyed. Its pinging in games at the same as i was with plusnet with ~40-50 on CSS at the minute, aint tried BF2 yet. I tested P2P last night with a 150mb file and it done 250kbs all the way, which i never seen on plusnet, the most i got off them was ~60kbs.

So far nothing major with the connection is going wrong, but their customer service is up to its usual bright ideas. My dad rang last night to find out his email details (he rang just as Simian kindly told me on here). The bloke said our net isnt active yet, to which my dad replied saying that he is browing on it now. The docile foll then replied with 'no your not', brains of the century i tell ya. After proving the guys wrong he then got told his details and activated his email account downstairs at the same time as me upstairs.

I fought with him not to put it in, but so far i have minimal complaints with it. My dad only put it in as he spends ~£8 a month on the phone to the USA, that saving and not having to pay BT line rental made him switch.

Hmm. Got my startup pack today, my go live date was 31st August, and I'm posting here because... nay internet.

I don't actually know what the matter is, nor does anyone on the customer services line, which I've called about 5 times. I've narrowed the problem down to somewhere between the wall socket and the computer, because changing the filters does nothing, the modem powers up fine, but the little ADSL light never comes on, having tested on 2 computers. My line though is apparently active they tell me... So, either the modem is faulty, or the modem cable is faulty, or my line is actually not active yet. Great.

Well it's been nearly 3 months since i applied to talktalk, and still no phone or broadband switch over.
Called customer services they said " BT had refused to switch us over ".
So as you can imagine i quickly contacted BT and was dealt with by a very nice chap who informed me that this was total B******s.
He explained that there had been no contact from talktalk concerning our landline and if there was, it wouldn't be a problem for us to switch over.
Also went on to say that i could have that in writing.
Contacted talktalk again and the woman i spoke to appologised and said it must have been a computer error ( yeah right ) and our order would have to go through the system again, that was a month ago.
On the brightside i had an email today from SKY telling me i'm elligable for there new broadband packages (registered for this a week ago) so i contacted my current service provider AOL requested an MAC and hopefully i'll be with SKY soon.
I wouldn't recommend talktalk to anyone going on my experience.

Customers service is diabolical, but mow im connected its fine, and im actually downloading faster than i did on plusnet. Im getting put onto 8mb next month when its avaialble at my exchange, which hopefully will go alright, but i dont expect it to.

I have read somewhere that ditching the TALKTALK router for something better can be positive! cheapest get a connexant pci card!

Sorry to bring this up again, but I've been trying to get a friend online, and we had the exact same problem earlier tonight. I have installed cable and ADSL for friends before, but I have never had this kind of bother.

We tried various combinations of 3 splitters, 2 modems (one ethernet and one USB) and 2 different ADSL lines after we found the original had been gotten to by her mutt. Still nothing. Better yet, decided to phone their "customer service", and sat for 17 minutes on hold getting told we were 1st in the queue, then a 3-minute speel about international calling, then we were 2nd in the queue, then first again, repeat until we got cut off. Going to have to break the bad news to her tomorrow about how bad this is, she won't be happy. And my boss is still waiting for her activation date as well....
