Anyone had their car 'Detailed'?

Here we will have everyone getting the ***** out and waving them around fapping off to what actually constitutes of detailing.

Detailing IMO equates to washing your car in a bit more detail than your local handcar wash.

Whether this includes taking alloys off, doing arches, waxing, sealing, polishing, glazing, claying etc etc. It all comes under detailing.

Guess what else comes under detailing? Paint corrections.

Detailing does not mean paint correction.

Paint correction means paint correction.

Washing your car is a bucket and sponge that you see some 60 year old doing with their Rover 75 or what I do where I wang some snow foam on, then blast it off and it comes up a decent treat.

So when somebody says I detailed my car for 3-4 hours then yes they detailed their car.

No ordinary person cleans their car for 3-4 hours, 3-4 hours means you go into detail.

Now everyone put your ***** away.

I washed my car but i also wiped off some oil that fell between the engine. Does that mean i detailed my car because a 60yr old wouldn't do that.

You are getting mixed up between giving the car a good wash and the knowledge and effort/time needed to detail.

Have you detailed a car because if you had properly you would not be telling people that because they washed it and put a little more effort in than normal they had detailed it.

You don't appreciate what a detailing means.

I agree, it takes me 3 hours to properly wash, dry and polish my car. Another hour to do the inside properly.

I call that cleaning. That is not addressing any flaw in the paintwork.

Every weekend it will get a 10 minute pressure wash, sponge clean and rinse which is just to keep the main road dirt off it.

I would imagine, if I was detailing, it would go into a second day of a weekend.

Nope, not in my eyes. And are you some form of super human or do you own a car the size of a matchbox?

It takes me at least 2-3 hours just to snow foam, rinse, alloys, wash, dry, windows, exhaust. Then another 30-45 mins for the interior. I haven't even started on polishing, waxing etc yet!!!

Takes me about 1-1.5 hours for the same, interior including leather treatment about 30-40 mins, standard hand polish 1 hour, havent done any paint correction yet though, that does take hours. My friend owned his own detailing business in Paphos (Cyprus) and he taught me how to do it, but sometimes he could spend a whole day on a car to paint correct it.

Takes me 20 minutes just to have the pressure washer ready, buckets out, cleaning mitts, and towels ready. Then another 10 mins to rinse the car before applying the snow foam which take 5-10 minutes depending on the mixture. I then allow the snow foam to do it's work for 30 minutes. But while this is being done i work on the nooks and crannies with either a detailing brush or MF cloth. Once finished I then thoroughly rinse the car this takes 10 minutes.

Alloys are then scrubbed and given a treatment of de-ironiser. The car is then washed with the 2 bucket method, and this takes a minimum of 20-30 minutes making sure no body panel is missed.

The car is then rinse again, and the alloys are wiped down with a MF cloth. The car is then dried after about 5 mins letting most of the water drip off. Which takes around 10 minutes

So we are now at around 140-150 minutes, and I haven't even started on the metal work, interior or even touched the bodywork with polish let alone wax.

I don't consider the above "detailing", what exactly has been detailed?? I'ts not until you begin to work on blemishes, tar removal, claying, and a good polish which is finished off with a high quality wax.

Sigh, I did a full 5 day detail on my 330d including a full paint correction. Required a daft amount of passes to get it perfect.

Detailers just like to get into willy waving arguments.

Takes the turkish guys near me 20 minutues and I consider that clean as the car is shiney silver again instead of being dirty grey lol

It will be cleaner but not clean. I washed my car twice using 2 bucket method thinking it couldnt get cleaner than that. I then began to clay the car and couldn't believe how much entrenched grime it managed to pick up!

Only differences are I don't de-ionise the wheels and I just seem to work a bit faster, use a silicon blade to remove most of the water then leather off or use freshly cleaned microfibre towels.

My gear is washed from last use in the washing machine and ready to go for next use, so setting up doesn't take long.

I use white spirit for tar removal, it's pretty good and cheap compared to other tar removers.

If I am honest, I am not as anal as some detailers, but my car is 17 years old, so more about preservation than perfection.

By no stretch of the imagination do I even think I have ever detailed my car.

I will one day when I eventually gather up the full kit, but at the moment this is a slow process with funds being low.

I just think it's daft for someone to day detailing is "just doing a little more than the bloke down the street".

But we all know the Jay bloke is the biggest troll ever, so I'm not sure why I'm wasting my time to be honest

No willy waving at all.

I just think it's a good idea for people to understand that washing your car, doing a little metal polish and dusting you're interior does not qualify as "detailing" your car. All that you have done is simply "clean" the car, nothing has been detailed.

This next reply says pretty much what i was going to say.

Exactly, spot on.

Plenty here according to Jay794 who can "detail" your car

Don't insult me, I never said anything of the sort.

Last place I'd take my car is to a mechanical car wash, might as well just save money and key it myself lol.

I don't really see the point of extreme detailing anyway, why spend £300 or more than a few hours detailing your car, as soon as you take it off your drive, you won't notice the difference lol.

Don't see why people have varying opinions on what is/isn't detailing, anything more than a sponge (why would anyone use a sponge?!) I mean a wash mitt, car shampoo and hot water. Should be considered detailing, because you're going into "detail" when cleaning.

Isn't there another phrase for extreme detailing, where they do the underside of the car too?
