Anyone had their car 'Detailed'?

I don't really see the point of extreme detailing anyway, why spend £300 or more than a few hours detailing your car, as soon as you take it off your drive, you won't notice the difference lol.

Except for the fact that it will be near as damn it swirl free? :p

Though I would only recommend getting a car detailed if your prepared to use the proper techniques when washing it yourself to perserve the finish.

:)

I know its not very constructive but I would love to be able to watch when a 'detailer' gets stuck behind a gritting lorry. Each piece of grit that hits their car probably equates to two days of their life wasted.

Goes back to single bucket, sponge and turtle wax method. :P

Jay, quit trashing the thread

I'm not trashing this thread, all I'm saying is that anything more than a sponge, soap and water should be classed as detailing

Auto detailing (UK: Car valeting), is the performance of an extremely thorough cleaning, polishing and waxing of an automobile, both inside and out, to produce a show-quality level of detail. Besides improving appearance, detailing helps to preserve resale value of a car.

Except for the fact that it will be near as damn it swirl free? :p

Like I said, for about 5 minutes, the combination of weather/state of the roads, a proper detailing might last a week at most.

Lol, exactly, I spend a few hours detailing my car, because I enjoy it, and it looks nice for a few days

Don't insult me, I never said anything of the sort.

Last place I'd take my car is to a mechanical car wash, might as well just save money and key it myself lol.

Don't see why people have varying opinions on what is/isn't detailing, anything more than a sponge (why would anyone use a sponge?!) I mean a wash mitt, car shampoo and hot water. Should be considered detailing, because you're going into "detail" when cleaning.

Isn't there another phrase for extreme detailing, where they do the underside of the car too?

What aspect of the car are you detailing by going a little further than rinse wash rinse? So if someone takes the effort to shammy dry their car they have in effect detailed? If someone removes the car mats and gives them a few pats against the wall, have they detailed?

The point in detailing is that if you do a good job, and give the car a good final protection layer, it means that less effort is needed when washing the car again. I have seen many people over at DW only need to snow foam their car to get it looking better than 98% of cars on the road. Of course this is never the case as we are all car enthusiast and like to spend time cleaning our cars regularly to keep them prime.

The very fact you say as soon as your drive your car off the drive its filthy already. I washed my car 1 week ago, spent just under 3 hours cleaning it, and please note I haven't once said i "detailed" and it's still clean 150 miles later. A good method, the correct tools are your car will look clean longer.

If you detail, then the car will continue to gleam under that protective layer you put on after detailing. Your friend in that white ST simply needed to throw some water over the mud splash and he would have been laughing!!

Can we now stop this immature bickering, wash mitt + bucket + hose + dusting your interior does not = detailing.

Call it what you want, the sheer amount of products in my washbucket says different. No point me carrying on, trying to convince you, it's a petty argument anyways, like someone said, it's willy waving lol.

I've had a couple of details done and been very pleased with the results - I'm sure its something I could do myself but its far easier to ply some random guy with coffee while sitting inside earning the cash to pay for it.

A good protection will last more than a few weeks - especially if you wash and top it up with a quick detailer... Infact i need to get my car redone soon...

Not done it myself, but have seen the results first hand and it definitely is such an improvement, definitely worth the money if you like your car!
