anyone heard of the brand powercool

ive got a powercool 950 watt modular, im just a bit mythical as its £90 when a tx 850 is £109.

all it states is its 950 watts

dual 12v rail

sli capable

80+ cert

and modular.

is mine okay ?

would i be able to sli 480s with it if i wanted to hypothetically ?

I haven't heard of them myself, and as such wouldn't trust it to run a grand's worth of kit. That's just me though, if you find it stable it's ultimately down to you.

They seem a cheaper brand brand which I would not touch, I would personally choose a main brand like Corsair / BeQuiet ect.

hmm im wondering whether to go with corsair, i mean the psu seems to be doing well, i have a fan controller and its running at 22 degrees, according to the probe.

If you've already got it and you're not having any problems then I would leave it. It's 80+ and it wasn't crazy cheap. I don't know if I would trust it with dual 480's though

yeah i mean its running cool, the 2x 480 was only hypothetical, considering you only see 60 fps on general lcds anyway, i dont think ill want more than my oc'ed 470 for now. most ill probably go to is one 490gtx if one ever surfaces.

was only wondering if anyone had heard if they were good or not, cant seem to find a review for them.

But I have trusted a grands worth of kit onto a PowerCool Modular 850W, if I was you I would get a DR. POWER II to check it out, I am going to do so within the next week, I have failsafe tested it with variable resistors to check whether it'd cutout when something shorted and it did, so as far as safety goes it's great, about reliable and stable electrics I do not know yet.

I know of PC Power & Cooling, and of PowerColour, but not Powercool As such, can't recommend. If there are no reviews, then you can't really take a gamble on a PSU.

Allegedly. They always make up the numbers, iffy operating temperatures, ect... Unless you refer to a trusted brand like Corsair or Antec, ect... If you know the OEM manufacturer of the PSU, then you will get a better idea.

Cheap and nasty stay clear from it mate.. Get yourself a decent brand one like Antec or Corsair or XFX. OCUK have these Powercool PSUs under this name OcUK Battle range so be warned.

i have had problems previously using inferior brand power supplies. i would stick to a known brand with decent reviews.

not worth the hassle.

another vote for selling it on and getting something decent here.

if your only planning on using the one GTX 470 then something like the antec 550W modularwould be plenty, but if you plan on using two 470s in SLI then i would recommend the lepa 900W 80+ gold.

i was really after something ~800W for two GTX 470s in SLI, but when theres a 900W 80+ gild modular PSU made by enermax thats cheaper than any other PSU thats powerful enough (and doesnt make funny noises like the OCZ range) then i wouldnt say no

I see 960W 12V, not 60. 60 isn't even enough for the CPU on its own.....
