Anyone here run a website purely for money?

Hi, as title says, does anyone run a website just for the money it brings in whatever sum that may be?

I'm mainly talking money from advertising, in a nut shell, what would one have to do and where would they start?

Pornography is pretty much the best way to make money online. Become a reseller of someone else's material, get a dedicated server, and watch the cash pour in.

Other than porn, write good content that encourages visitors to repeat visit, get an Adsense account, and watch the cash trickle in.

Yup. www.worldwindcentral.com is one of them. And it all goes to a group on whose board I sit.

.....It's a non-profit though

Google's Adsense is the major player in pay-per-click advertising and is the only form of advertising which I don't block from showing in my browser

Most websites dont make a lot of money unless they are selling something in particular, if its a general intrest site then it will just be a case of using those google pay per click ads.

I'm sure porn would bring in a good amount of money, but it's not something I really would want to get involved with (looking at it is enough for me).

How long does it take to get parties interested in ones website, providing it's one they're interested in? Is it instant?

Depends on the content. How well the site is presented etc

Rarely instant though.

It totally depends on the type of site, the number of visitors, and so on. Anything from nothing to millions

Not sure people will pay you at the start to have a banner on your site, rather you would set up an affiliate scheme with them and you get a percentage of any sales made after someone has clicked through on the banner. This can be either a few % or a set amount, the schemes that pay the most are Mobile Phone contracts and Loans these can pay anything between £20 -£100 per sale, Onlince Casions also pay quite well too.
