anyone in ucl?

i am going to be working in london this summer and the job is based on the ucl halls of residence (ramsay hall)
since i am writing my dissertation for my uni atm, and i will be writing it during the summer, will it be possible to use the library and borrow books from the ucl library or its not possible at all if i dont know someone?

I don't know if you will be able to borrow books, even getting into a uni library will be an effort. I recommend you go to the uni webpage and find the library link and email them.

With most uni's libs in london they have a guest pass facility which will let you use it. As I say, lending is a further problem.

Make sure you take your home uni id just in case and make sure to visit the library during hours when it is manned by staff.

I don't know ucl but am just applying generalisations for procedure

you wont be able to get into the library without a UCL id card mate, there's a bar code on the back of them which you scan into these 'turnstiles' as you go up the stairs to the library. There is a desk to the left of it with one or two dudes watching

pc screens as the photo pops up on the screen. They normally don't do their job as I was using a friends card last time I was going.

you cant go into the ucl library, however, the LSE library is public. so you can use that.

What spirit said. You can get a guest pass and stuff, but I think that's only applicable to other uni. of london uni.s

Although, Senate house is very close as well. Not as close as the ucl main to Ramsay, but another 5-10 min. walk. I haven't used it yet, but comes highly recommended adn I think it's public.

Failing that, British Library is close by as well. Both are closer than the LSE lib.

Photo pops up on screen? I thought they just sat there for, uh, not quite sure why, lol. only spoken to them for directions

Depends on which Library you need. You can get into the DMS Watson by saying you are visiting the Petrie Museum.

If you are a valid member of staff, you can get the barcode from DMS Watson (Science Library down the road from ULU)
