Anyone know anything about cars?

I would be quite upset if I asked my local garage to remove a wheel and they couldn't, regardless of how shagged a bolt was.

I'd be more upset if they just went for the "butcher the nuts off without asking first"

At least they gave the OP the opportunity to get hold of a new key instead of costing him a complete new set of lock nuts.

Thanks guys for the suggestions. Am taking the car back for some more work later in the week and will tell the mechanic to get medieval on those wheel nuts.

Some idiot has used an impact wrench on that, they should never be used with power tools, always done by hand with a torque wrench.

The guys above are right though, hammer and an oversized socket will have them off, cheaper than getting a new one from the manufacturer. Set of new ones from halfords will cost you about £30 once they are off, i wouldn't bother putting new ones on except insurance companies tend to insist on them for some reason.
