Hey guys

Been having few problems with the boxster over the last few weeks. Its a 1998 2.5 Tiptronic.

Basically, over the last few weeks, I have noticed the boxster feeling very sluggish, and seemingly down on power.

It just doesnt seem to kickdown like it used to; when you try to kickdown, the car sort of shudders.

Even when pressing the accelerator normally, it just doesnt pick up speed , it seems to take ages to accelerate, and sometimes sort of seems to 'hunt' for gears.

Anyways, today went to pick someone up, and noticed that the car was really lumpy, and no fun to drive. On the way back home the check engine light started to flash, and is now on continuously.

Great

The problems also exist when you put it in the tip-manual mode, if that helps ?

Any ideas ?

I have this sick feeling in the bottom of my stomach. :(

Sounds like you need to put it into a Porsche dealer and throw twenty pound notes at it.

Then again, it might need a service. Who knows?

You can run tests on the o2 sensor if you like, unscrew it mount in a vice then heat the end with a blowtorch, voltage output should change, can't remember the specs off the top of my head but i can check if needed.

Might be worth searching the porsche forum for self diagnostics.

 blow torch sounds a bit extreme!

Take it to a Porsche dealer/independent and get them to look at it.

It's not a £500 Clio or something so just take it to somewhere that can properly diagnose it and get your wallet out. Sure it might not be cheap but I'm sure you fully understood that when you bought the car.

Please please please dont do this. Im not saying for a second that Firestart doesnt know what he's on about, but just take it in to a specialist.

I can just imagine the conversation...

"Hi, I've been having a problem with my Boxster, I think there is a problem with one of the sensors"

"Hmmm, it seems to be melted."

"Erm, this guy of the internet said I should put it in a clamp and take a blowtorch to it....."

You do know the position of the O2 sensor and how hot the exhaust gas gets don't you, it won't melt ;)

Its one way to test the sensor, other would be flashing up the ECU fault codes.

Depends how practical you are, odds are trying to get the O2 sensor out will be a pain anyways!

It was more in jest that anything :)

I do know where the oxygen sensor is, but as to whats hotter - a blowtorch or exhaust gas? Havent the foggiest.
