Hey everyone

Got a date on friday in chelmsford (long story, dont ask ;) )

Just wondering if anyone knows the area well, and knows anywhere nice for dinner, walks etc etc

I know the town centre a little, and have already been to the Waterfront restuarant - so thats out.

Any ideas appreciated - doesnt matter if it is a little way out either, dont mind driving a little way out of chelmsford.

The Courtyard is an excellent restaurant if you don't mind paying the prices, and really want to impress.

Other than that pizza express, or the Tapas bars dotted around. Can't seem to think of any other decent/half-decent restaurants.

Muddy Waters is lovely but pricey, its on a little barge on the river but dont let that put you off. Most of the restaurants around town are nice enough, although I'm not sure I'd want to be going for a romantic walk around town late at night. It's not so much dodgy as full of idiots.

Take her out to Dukes, get her drunk, shag her in the back of your XR3i, stick your "I Got The Dukes Experience" sticker in the back window while you're in the back, drive her home, tell her you'll call her. Darlin. She'll be well impressed ;)

There is a river, but its kinda murky and not that nice to look at. There are some parks nearby, but after dark they can be full of less inviting characters.

Although if you head towards the market, there is a little park there. Now if you follow the path round to the right you will head towards waterhouse lane (if you are interested I can give better directions). There are fishing ponds/lakes there and its a good little walk.

Outside the centre a little bit is hylands park with hylands house which I believe is lit at night.

I will have a think for you, but I must admit that its been years since i've been on a night out in chelmsford :)

edit: Bwahahaha yep, you have to take her to Dukes for the full experience. Its normally preceeded by Lloyds/Edwards with a brief stagger down the high street

I really wouldnt be walking in any parks after dark if I were you, you'll be asking for trouble. In the daytime the walk along the river is lovely and like Zirax said Hylands House is a good bet too. Walking for the sake of walking after dark....dont bother.

With a quick stop at Maccy D's of course!!

You can even start the evening at the Ivory Peg for some cheaper drinks before you go to Lloyds/Edwards :D

River isn't really a good idea, can be a bit hairy at night I used to hate walking back from uni to where my car was parked. Thats without alchohol on a friday/saturday night making it 10x worse.

La Tasca is quite nice for tapas and yates/lloyds/edwards isn't too bad. Not loads to do in the town after dark. There is a nice resturant just out of the high street called back in time.

I noticed the other day that pizza express is shut until the end of nov. So hit the hut :D

TBH for a decent night out in chelmsford, get on a train to london ;)

Dammit that was the one that I was trying to remember, nice one :) Easily spotted near the train station.

A nice chinese in Chelmsford. Absolutely fantastic. Called "Imperial".

Number is 01245 250759 and its quite close to the cinema and the betting shop (if you know where they are)

lol, u cheapskate :) Imperial is a buffet. To be fair it is nice, but hardly date material :) Empire on Springfield Road is much more like it for that, or there's one on Broomfield Road opposite the Ship (I forget the name) that's also nice.

Bck Inn Time is nice, very oriented towards dates/hen nights/birthdays.
