I've got a Cisco IP Phone 7960, but don't have the password to reset it, is there another method to reset the device to factory defaults?

At present I have installed the P0S3-06-3-00 firmware

It it in SIP configuration

Pressing **# has no effect (instructions on Cisco.com)

Any ideas?

Reset the 7940 and 7960 IP Phones to the Factory Default

Complete these steps:

1.

Go to the main Date/Time screen.
2.

Press **# to unlock Network Configuration on the phone.
3.

Press Settings.
4.

The Network Configuration lock symbol should be unlocked. If it is not, exit to the main screen and press ** # again.
5.

Press 3 on the keypad (or scroll down) for Network Configuration.
6.

Press 33 on the keypad (or scroll down) for Erase Configuration.
7.

Press softkey Yes.
8.

Press softkey Save.

The phone should now be reset.

info was from this site

Things changed slightly with CCM 4.0 and above -

Press the settings button FIRST.

The press **#

Select Option 3 (Network Config - although this may differ depending on you firmware revision) - check that the little padlock in the top right is unlocked

Scroll down and highlight Erase Config and hit the Yes softkey.

press **#** whilst still in the settings screen to reboot the phone.

(if you just want to reboot the phone and force it to re-register with CCM just press the settings button and then **#** )

Thanks for all the help fellas, managed to get it working by downloading default configs from Cisco and downloading via TFTP, this in turn cleared the password
