Morning all,

I have been looking around a various ISP's and i have come across BE Broadband and they seem to offer quite good deals. I with virgin at the mo and my line can only support 3.5mb but i find myself paying £27 a month all together with the virgin phoneline as well, i really dont use the landline and am thinking of getting rid of it all together.

Just loooking for some advice with regards to BE broadband really

hope you can help

many thanks

I would not drop vigin media for a 3.5mb DSL line. phone virgin media up and ask for a better deal.

I'm with BE and have no complaints.
Good stable connection, fastpath for low pings, great customer support via phone/forums and no limitations/traffic shaping :)

I recommended my sister to BE, and she has had nothing but trouble with them. The said they could gaurantee at least 12Meg. My sister only got 2Meg, when they did have a connection, which was about 3 times a week at best.

BE never took responability and there customer service was a joke. My sister has since moved to Sky, in which she has had no problems.

If you want to settle for a slower speed, albeit at a lower price, then definitely go with Be.

However, you will never reach the same speeds you can with Virgin. So it really depends on what you want, slower speed/lower cost, faster speed/higher cost.

Although thinking about it, you do need to pay for the line rental with Be since its DSL, so the cost will still probably be cheaper, but only just.

I'd take the advice above and call Virgin and ask for a deal.

Just so you know, BE is good broadband designed for gamers because they cater to us and will offer low pings and a fast path connection instead of interleaved. While you may get this on Virgin, you'll probably be screaming at some idiot over the phone for an hour before he understands what you want.

So if you're computer savvy and a gamer then BE is a great choice, otherwise, no, not much difference, but then again, besides prices you could say that for all providers.

He's obviously talking about Virgin ADSL, which is terrible. Be are a totally different world of quality compared to what you're on.

I'm with Be and they are easily the best ISP I have been with, customer service for me was excellent and no traffic shaping!

You can't go wrong with them, 10/10 recommended.

Yeah its adsl i have, im not in a fibre optic area and i cant ever see virgin putting it there either. I saw about BT's new fibre optic bb which is avaliable in my area but BT are way over priced!!

BE state from given them my landline number i can get 5mb but i know my line only supports 3.5mb. i have not had any issues with virgin good solid connection but cant help think they are a bit pricey. I am in contract with them until FEB if its a 12 month contract i took out which i think it was so if i was to leave and go to BE i would get charged a disconnection fee i guess. I would also need a BT line to have BE so when they called me up i told them i wern't paying for it so if they wanted my custom they would have to pay for my bt line. Im sure they said they would cant remember now tho lol but they are calling me again tonight hence why im very grateful to all your opinions here.

I mainly use my bb for xbox live any of you guys have any issues with live under BE?

That's way overpriced for what you are getting, hugely so, I pay half that amount and as far as issues, I have not had any with anything let alone Xbox live (which I have also).

With the price you are paying you are almost in line bonding territory!

If FTTC is in your area I would think about that, it's not just BT that are offering this service.

Huh?

How are you connected to Virgin ADSL without a BT landline?

Don't be fooled by the estimation speed Be* give you, when I joined them I was estimated at 3Mbps but I connected solidly at 8Mbps. Also, Virgin are ADSL and Be* are ADSL2+ which work on different frequencies.

Post your current router stats as most of us could tell what you should sync at.

I think Be* will install you a land line for free/cheap if you took out their phone package.

Be* are by far the best ISP in the UK. Been with them since moving from Freeserve/Wanadoo/Orange in March 07.

I pay £17 month for 14mb DL (43.5db att!!!) 1mb UL 1 static IP address and unlimited bandwidth.

With your low speed would suggest you look at Be*Value as it's up to 12mb (I think)

ADSL Link Downstream Upstream
Connection Speed 3409 kbps 1023 kbps
Line Attenuation 64.5 db 35.5 db
Noise Margin 10.40 db 1.5 db

This is the info i took from my netgear router, any other info that you would need swifty? i guess its a bt line but i pay virgin my line rental

Also whats the main difference between virgin ADSL and BE ADSL2+?

thanks again
