Anyone know of a paintwork detailer(?) in Yorkshire area?

Hi folks,

Obviously I could google this, but wondered if anyone has any personal experience of a company that prepares car paintwork in my area?

When I bought my black Mondeo 6 months ago it'd been given a showroom preparation, lots of nice beading on the paintwork etc. and for a black car it stayed clean. Have just given it a wash and there's now no beading to be seen.

Being black, it's going to be difficult to keep clean over winter so I'd like someone to prep it for me - a full wash, polish, wax, sealant etc. Not totally sure of the terminology but I know how long it takes me to just wash it properly and hoover it out and haven't really got time for all of the above!

The question mark in the subject is because I'm not sure whether detailer is the right term, but it's not a valet I'm after as such, more of a paintwork condition. Anyone got any input?

Cheers.

If you haven't damaged the paint during your ownership I see no reason to polish it, I'd just wash it properly and use a good wax or sealant. Unless of course you have scratched/swirled the paint in the past 6 months...

I've actually polished the car a few times in my ownership. It looks better after a coat but for the time it takes me to do it properly, I think the results I'm after would take more than just a polish (a proper wax and sealant).

Under bright lights in the dark, you can see the paint is swirled, although for the rest of the time to me, it looks in good condition. After just a wash it shines pretty well. Wouldn't mind the swirl marks disappearing though, obviously. :P

Are you for real? Seriously? Did you actually just say that?

You don't only polish a car to fix damage!

If he has no swirls & scratches, no oxidation, no worn color, why would he polish it again ? The results would be extremely minimal. He wants beading and a car that looks clean and is easy to clean, that's what a wax or sealant is for.

From the OP all it sounds like it was a tad dirty, he washed it, and noticed there's no beading: The sealant/wax has washed off...

My car has no swirls, no scratches, no oxidation, no worn colour and never has.

Despite this, it still looks good after a polish, as does any car

He's talking about polishing not full on paint correction

Care to show pictures of before and after then, good wash vs polish ?
Reason I don't believe it is because when I wash my Volvo ( which is dark and would profit from polishing far more than your silver car) with a good shampoo and it still has a layer of wax, I can't really see any difference than after polishing it with SSR1 on a white polishing pad with a rotary.

Thats because you are polishing turds. I wouldnt bother polishing a 500 quid banger either.

I'd do it for you but I'm in Middlesbrough (about an hour away?) . If you just cover my fuel then I don't mind helping a fellow forum member out :)

Ohh and this is what you get after a polish.

That finish wouldn't be half as good after just a wash.

Yeah right . The WORSE a car looks the more result there is from polishing for starters.
And no it's not worth 500 quid...

Thanks for the links, all. peterattheboro, if you can get mine looking like a 911 GT3 I'd be very happy ;) Seriously though, if you'd be willing / able to do it one weekend then I'd be more than happy to drive to you.

uhm beading is from the wax and not polish?
all you need to do is SRP & EGP it, perhaps clay it if you really want to, then wax it?

Sure I don't mind doing it for you. But do you want to drive the car up here, get it nice and clean then drive it back again? :p

And beading is from the wax but it's recommended you polish it every 6 months anyway.

So I can wash it, de-tar, clay it and give it a pass with a machine polish if you want and then seal it with some Dodo Juice Hard Candy.

Then you drive it home and it's filthy again :p

Hmm, never thought of that ;) It's gonna get mucky first thing Monday morning I guess, but would be nice to have it clean on the drive first. Thought it would save you some time but if you're ok to come to me then obviously I'd be chuffed! Definitely above and beyond the call of forum duty! Obviously would be more than happy to cover your petrol (as long as the GT3 isn't yours ;)). e-mail is in trust.
