Anyone know why he did this? (police brutality)

OMFG this is blatantly the officers doing! Why are any of you protecting him saying 'pedestrians have right of way' YEAH NICE ONE, I have the right of way around a roundabout in a car but if some knob decides I don't you let it slide not crash into him, christ! Or if somebody walks across the road when I'm coming along I don't speed up to run him over, lol wtf you guys have some strange thinking. I wouldn't want to meet you on my bike.

The cyclist was going round the officer just as the 20 or so before him, the officer purposely lunges forward to push him, if he really was going for the pavement there's this thing that's called standing still and waiting obviously not a lot of people have heard about this one.

I'm surprised the crowd didn't gang up on him and hurl some abuse tbh I hope he got fired.

If the cyclist had gone straight at his speed prior to impact, the cop could have either stood still where he was, or attempted to run past.

If the cop chose to walk on, the cyclist would have to swerve one way or another to avoid him.

They both made their choices based on an assumption about what the other would do. The cop assumed the cyclist was going to continue on present trajectory, so he attempted to run past. The cyclist assumed the cop would continue on present trajectory, so he veered left to go round him. They ran into each other.

There doesn't appear to be any malicious intent here, but then I know some people like to slam cops just as much as people like to slam cyclists, so this thread is likely to run and run with loads of idiocy on both sides.
 
It could be either, but I find it more telling that the officer makes no apologetic attempt to lift the rider up and comfort them after the "incident". I think that's a pretty automatic response when an accident of this type occurs.

The Officer clearly targeted that particular cyclist and purposely took him off his bike.

As I said before, whether the cop was justified or not we cannot say, I would expect that the cyclist was wanted for some reason and thus the reason the Officers where there scanning the cyclists prior to the incident.

To say they accidently came together is just not the case, that is plain to see from the footage.
 
Why is anyone assuming he was 'going to the pavement' where did this come from??? It looks like he was preparing to intercept someone, he had his vision locked onto him. Why is this so hard to see??

Regardless of being a cop if he really was 'going to the pavement' (which I highly doubt) he is the worst person to cross the road with.
 
The cop clearly went for him, for what reason I don't know - just had enough? After this particular guy? Whatever the reason, you can see him speed up when the guy swerves in an attempt to go round the cop, who then properly shoulder-slams the guy off his bike.

An attempt by the cop to avoid the cyclist would have looked VERY different. That was aggressive, not defensive.
 
Well, assuming he did go for him, we'll never know why. Maybe the cyclist was mouthing off at the cop. Maybe he had a gun. Who knows.

We're once again trying to analyse 30 seconds of video with no surrounding information as to what is going on. It's fairly pointless, unless someone has any more hard facts.

Some people will see malice, others will see incompetence.
 
OMG, I am amazed there are people thinking the cop was scared and wanted to go to the safety of the pavement and was nearly run over by the cyclist.

He sped up raising his arms to hit him, if he kept walking there wouldn't be any problem at all.

I am completely unbias, i couldnt care less is the whole of new york was raped and crucified..

The police officer assulted that guy
 
I cycle, and am wondering, in this country, if some random guy just pushed me off my bike as I went by him, and it was caught on camera etc, and presuming I'm still in one piece and relatively unharmed, would that guy actually go to jail?

Despite being the victim, I'd want him severely reprimanded, many hours of community service etc, paying for all damages to me/my bike, but jail? I'm not sure..
 
I'd say it certainly looks like he did it on purpose.

Whether he had reason to do it is another question, and nobody here can say for sure either way. Like someone said, the officers could have been looking for someone, with intelligence, etc, and they might have found their man.

EDIT: Or seemingly he just has a hatred of cyclists :D

He didn't have a gun there's no maybe about it. He had two hands on the handle bars...

Even if he was mouthing off to that cop, he could have been seriously injured or killed if his head had hit the curb.

Reckless behavior from the officer.

another cop chucking his authorative weight around. blatant purposeful act which he can put down on paperwork as an accident but didn't bank on being caught on film.
imagine the stuff we don't see?
