I noticed on Kotaku the other day that the Collector's Edition is up for pre-order now - anyone other than me looking forward to this?

Not really a Trekkie (Trekker?) but I love the original movies and I haven't played an MMO since Star Wars Galaxies - hope this is good! :)

I would be looking forward to it I have been part of the closed beta for about 3 months now, but have yet to even try the game because of the STUPID times they have for play testing.

They don't even think of europe people at all because all there play times are PST -8GMT and u end up having to be up at 4am in the morning.

Looking forward, hopefull but my head tells me its going to blow, or at least be hugely dissappointing compared to what it should be.

It's completely possible its fine, even fantastic, but a game that gets passed around from studio to studio as they run out of cash, and has several different teams and companies working on it with what seems to be very little time at the latest lot I can't see it happening.

As for the Beta, the beta's have to be at stupid times because, the guys need the data while at work in normal hours otherwise its not hugely helpful to them. Either way, lots if not most beta's seem to work that way, Champs online and many others were similar giving you very little time to check the game out. The only exception for MMO's I can think of was Lotro, though I was in the closed beta fairly late and the public beta right before launch. I've never seen a beta so damn good, it was up a huge amount of the time, never had any crashes that weren't Nvidia + 64bit +vista issues, because Nvidia vista drivers were absolutely awful for 6 months and had memory leak issues with lots of game it seemed. It never crashed once on my ATi cards. Frankly it felt like the entire finished final polished game from 2 months before launch.

I beta-tested Matrix Online - damn, I loved that game - shame SOE screwed it up (along with SWG) :(

Damn! That sucks! Have you had a chance to try it at all??

No, after 3 months because if I am up at 4am in the morning i'm at work. To be fair the game looks pants from what I read on the beta forums.

The client never updates correctly, they giveyou NO indication you can't play after being accepted into the closed beta, you have to figure that out for yourself.

I have heard a lot of the universe doesn't even feel like star trek but I have yet to try it.

What also annoys me is that the play testing is up for a max of 3 hours at a time, so even if i did stay up I would hardly get time to try it out. it all seems a bit well......pants.

To be fair, the times are not at 4am at all, it's at a respectable 1800-2100GMT.

It's a US company, of course times are going to be favourable for the US, they have to have GMs on hand for help, restarting servers and monitoring logs, they're hardly going to do it during the EU prime time are they?

As with all closed betas, time slots increase, Champions was running this timescale for quite some time, towards end of CB they ran the servers over weekends, then OB comes around which is 24/7.

Yes there are still some bugs, and game play needs ironing out, so i'm not sure if i'll be purchasing the game, but i'll see what happens by the end of OB.

Not me, despite liking Sci-fi in most mediums, I dont actually like Sci-fi in MMOs. Aside from that, I have grave concerns about an MMO which has such a limited beta when its so close to release. Its a pity really as the Star Trek license is one with enormous scope for a really epic open sandbox MMO, but alas I am expecting it to be a very heavily instanced theme park MMO which in no way achieves the kind of things which could have been done with such a license

I'm looking forward to it. Not looking forward to all the rp nerds that will come with it though. They might not understand I don't care how mighty their Klingon empire is, and that all I wanna do is blow stuff up

There's a guy in my clan in the beta, seems to be enjoying it so far, although I don't like a lot of the game mechanics - all the adventure areas are instanced, for example. It seems to be built very much on the champions online model in this respect.

What scares me to my very soul is the unbelievable amount of nerdiness it's bringing out in people I always thought relatively sane. It really is embarassing, and this from someone who'll quite happily talk about EQ or lotro for hours.

No. Pretty much every MMO that has been released in the last 2-3 has been overly hyped and then they just turn out like junk, so now I've learned my lesson and stopped caring about new MMO releases.

I'm looking forward to it and I will most likely get it for the launch (given that I have a new comp by then). I try not to have too high hopes about it, however, since there are a number of worrying signs, most notably the short beta and the lack of information regarding anything else than aspects related to the Federation.

I am also a bit worried about the instancing and the idea that you can only pvp in certain, dedicated areas. Also, the buff/heal/tank system seems a bit outdated :(

I was looking forward to it as a HUGE Star Trek fan but my expectations were pretty much slashed after seeing it in action. Now I'm looking forward much more to The Old Republic, even though Lucas has done everything he can to kill off my love for the franchise.

Yes but I heard some worrying beta leaks and Cryptic last game doesn't impress. After playing Dragon Age I'm reckon SW:ToR will be the MMO to play next year.

well I am a star trek fan but not sure I can get into a game like this, very rarely play online games like this, my friend is persuading me to get into WOW. he plays it every day lol, I cant see the appeal ... flame on

maybe if I try it I will get addicted, no?
