Has anyone been to Goodwood festival of speed before?

Me and a mate are going on the friday this year and both taking our camera's. Just trying to work out what lenses will be best but not sure on how close the viewing (non grandstand poor people viewing ;) ) is to the actual track and the cars.

Any advice appreciated :D

I've been for the last 4 years and there are a lot of other people in forum who go as well.

As for how close you can get to the action, this is uncropped at 100mm (1.6 crop).....

You actually get closer to the action than the grandstand people do. You basicly have about 2-3 metres and a bail of hay seperating you from the edge of the "track".

Yup, this year will be visit number six for me. Personally I shoot with either the 24-70 round the paddocks or the 100-400 for the track and assembly areas. You don't *need* 400mm for the track, 200mm on a 1.6x crop body should be ample if you get a decent spot.

Examples

I was there last year and going again this year with my 24-70 for the paddock and 70-300 for the track and rally course. Not sure if I'm taking my 170-500, I got a few nice pics with it last year but its a bit of a brute to carry round.

Here's all my pics from last year
