anyone play age of conan nowadays?

I had a few lvl 80 characters after playing from launch. Problem with the game is that once you hit the level cap there really wasn't a lot of content, sieging was completely bugged, the crafting system needed an overhaul and there were serious class balancing issues. There were positives though, the world of hyboria is really well executed and the atmosphere/music is probably the best in any mmo I've played. I also really liked the combat system as it is more engaging than most mmos. Ultimately it failed because they took too long introducing new content and fixing the glaring faults with the game. Eventually most people including myself left around the 6 month after getting tired of broken promises.

Funcom eventually fired the head guy and I've heard it is greatly improved from a few people who still play it but the problem is most people have left and server population drops and mergers mean there are only a few EU servers left with only 1000 odd players on.

Could have been one of the best MMO's ever made!

Unfortunately it's made by Funcom however, and through about a years worth of play i came to the conclusion that despite the massive potential, in the hands of Funcom the game wasn't going anywhere.

Game breaking bugs, lack of end game content, expansion pack is just a massive grind fest, server stability, seige gameplay way too laggy, developers seem clueless.

And worst of all when a bug is found, the developers turtle up and ignore the issue for a good few months, let people exploit the bug and then do sod all about it!

Avoid is my opinion, although may be good for a few weeks play if you havn't tried it.

What do you mean what is with the combat? Much of the reason I like the game is because it dared to be different with it's combat, if you tell me what is wrong with the interface I can explain it a bit, although I can't really think what your stuck on, the interface is really just your standard MMO fare.

it was more the fact that it just looked reallly horrible, but its all good now :)

Agree with this, had a fantastic combat system, by far the best I have seen in a MMO, changed the whole game for me, Do not understand how other games have not followed this YET!! I say yet as its the future for MMO.

Yup they fired the heads guy with the new one the game has grown in leaps and bounds plenty content across all levels and tons of runs at cap ( I have x 80 on crom 3 x 80 on fury).

Most people playing it really love it now, I could not really get back into it, which is a bit sad as there is so much to do I did enjoy the 3 months I re subbed, but mostly played my twinks :)

I 100% agree with this.

After having game-play breaking bugs that rendered AoC total unplayable, I contacted tech support to no avail, even wrote a snail-mail letter of complaint to the company, but nothing. Not even a token offer of extended play (not that I could play it, but the offer would've been nice) and they still left it broken.

Though this was all post-Expansion launch, which is when it broke for me. Before that, it was fairly enjoyable despite the grind. Were Funcom to find the time and money to fix its problems I think I'd still be playing it.

Tried going back to both multiple times but both WAR and AoC suck which is a shame.

Most promising MMORPG of all time Vanguard saga of heroes........ sadly it failed like most MMOs, hope they release another much improved version of that game as the ideas in it were just awesome.

Only thing im looking forward too now is SW:ToR i still play wow but its far too boring i dont think ill be resubscribing once its ran out.

You tried VG recently? It's the only MMO i'm currently subbed too, yes SOE has pretty much ceased dev support, but the game has improved vastly over launch and is now very playable, if you liked the ideas, but hated the execution you should come back for another go, at least for the trial as it's a great game now.

yeah i tried it awhile ago but it was dead, and they still hadnt implemented flying mounts (Apart from hire ones)

i actually thought the game had been closed down lol.

is it still full of exploiting bards running 500 gajillion milles per second?

doubt ill resub if its been abandoned by the devs.

played Aoc but for a month or so...didnt liked it at all...
play WAR now and enjoy it .specially pvp and that you can lvl with only playing pvp :) no more silly quests etc just pure fun

came back to WoW for a trial run again( was surprised that my toons were still there hehe) but did not liked it ... maybe cataclysm is diff but dont think I will give it a go unles convinced that its pvp is betterand there is no need of farming for quests

Personally I love AoC but it started with so many problems that still exist today.
I returned for ROTGS's release and the the only zone that I found playable (fps wise) was the gateway to khitia 20-40 zone. The other zones are massive and vastly detailed I had trouble even on the low settings...

Now I have a new PC I'm tempted to return, does anyone have a similar spec to mine?

GTX580
i7 2600k
8gb ram

Let me know how the Khitai zones run with that. =)

Have!

I really can't understand the concept of paying for a game, then having to pay to play it on a monthly basis.

You are paying for the infrastructure of support and constant updates required to run an MMO game.

I never begrudged paying £9 a month for World of Warcraft because I was getting untold numbers of hours from it. You dont get that with standard releases.

Even Call of Duty etc like trying to sell map packs and stuff

I always looked at MMOs along the cost per hour, rather than the cost per month. If I was playing a game 15 hours a week, 60 hours a month for £9 then that's pretty amazing value. When you compare that to going to the cinema or being dragged around the shops by the wife!

LOTRO is the only MMO I've played recently, it like many runs out of steam at top level unless you have untold hours to spend raiding though. Similar situation to WAR and WoW for me. Oddly the only game that kept me interested once I'd hit max level was DAOC, seriously hope they don't make a DAOC 2 (a proper one - not WAR!) as I'll probably end up addicted to it again :)

Played at launch for few months. Then tried it again few months ago. I just never got into it fully.

The first 20 Levels i really enjoyed but then it went down hill.
