No it isnt - every ps3 advert is pushing the fact its actually everything rolled into one - one "activity / role" doesnt take priority - according to Sony at any rate

Well in my eyes it is, although it's quite different than previous playstations it's main aspect is the gaming albeit slowly coming into the media side as did the 360. People buying it for blu-ray may well think it's worth it, but people buying it for games will either want it for the release games or wait until price drops as that's the main thing for them.

I just see it as overall being more of a games machine than a media machine, that's what the console was originally built for and sony have just added stuff to make people buy it for other reasons now instead of gaming as it appeals to more audience.

Oh wow! Another thread turned into a pathetic argument. I wish some of you lot would give it a rest. Its been done to death now.

As long as you don't mind it being from America, now is the time to buy one.

With the exchange rate being £1 = $2 if you find the right deal on the bay then you can get cheap.

Mate just got his for $500 with 1 game and a dvd which is £250 :) (including shipping and sent as a gift to try avoid the import tax :P )

Anyway, thanks for the tip Simmz! I may just have a look, see what I can find. If the price is right, I may just be persuaded!

I'll be surprised if it's less than £350 by the end of this year, but we'll see I guess :)

Can't see it happening either. I'd give it 2 years for you see them in that price range.

You pay for their worth, They will be worth less in 2 years. But I can't see their worth decreasing as rapidly as 150 quid in 1 year. Bluray is just kicking off, PS3 gaming is just kicking off, With their biggest and best games hitting the market in 2008.

I wouldnt want one from the USA because the dvds/blu rays are region coded, so I would have to buy them all region 1 ?

Cmon kids - pick your toys up please.

Kreee stated that he'd buy one when it comes down to a reasonable price. My point is - is that it is at a reasonable price already for what is included.

Yes, it will get cheaper but not in the short term so folks who want one will either have to dig deep, wait or simply forget it altogether.

Sony are not going to take out the blu-ray, the wireless or HD just because some folks aren't going to use them. This is how they are differentiating them selves from the offer provided by MS or Nintendo.

As an aside I can't see the 360 elite + wireless + hddvd costing any less. Yes you have a choice of components here - but with the PS3 at least you are guaranteeing a rather high minimum spec for developers to work with.

This is not a 360 v PS3 thread - I'm just saying that if you don't want to spend a lot of money then look elsewhere for the time being.

That's rich coming from you.

I'll get one when the price matches my perceived value of the product. Nothing more needs to be stated on the matter.

And who the hell said I didn't want to wait? Where did you get that idea from?

Just because YOU think it is a good deal, does not mean everyone else does.

The only reason I picked up my PS3 is because I believe it was worth the £65 I got off the original retail price (plus a game.)

I did not think the console was worth £400 but I did want one for the shiny factor and picked one up and the first price drop I saw.

I respect people who think it is still not at a resonable value as it is their decision when they price justifies the product. As far as Kreeeee goes, he knows enough about consoles that he could probably predict when the price drop he wants will come, if not, he certainly knows that he will be waiting...

Your reply came almost straight away - I don't think you even had time to read all of my last post. Does none of what I said make any sense to you ?. I thought it was quite sensible really. I'm not telling anyone what to do either.

Well I've seen them in action a couple of times and as a parent with children at ps3 age, I was seriously unimpressed, to me, at a glance it looked like an average games console so £400 is a bit much. Mind you, in this country people will pay a fortune for anything.

See the way i see it is it's just at a price i deem that is to exspensive for what it's worth. When it drops into a price range where i think it's worth the money ie. when more games and so on come out i'll pick one up aswell.

I don't mind waiting, although i do wish i picked up a 360 earlier than i did now as i've missed a lot.

That's what i mean :).

It didn't take a minute and a half to read your post and reply.

Nothing you say is likely to change what I feel the PS3 is worth and I really don't mind waiting 2-3 years (It won't be anywhere near that long) to get one at a price I deem reasonable.

Just a question really about how you would view the PS3's worth - more psychological than practical I guess

If the PS3 dropped to rrp of £399 (ie with vouchers and offers decreasing this further) but the software choice broadening and increasing in quality - would that be enough for you to purchase one - along with Little Big Planet which should be with us all by Oct/Nov time

Its really a question of percieved value - rather than street price

For me personally, £400 on a console is crazy money. I'd much rather wait and eventually pick one up at what I deem a reasonable price, probably around £200 or so. Long wait? Maybe so. Does that bother me? Not at all. I'm more than happy with my Wii in the meantime, plus it also gives the developers time to get some decent games released for it.

I'm not trying to change your mind - I'm not trying to change anyones mind. Take the rod out of your back and relax matey whilst I wait for a Porsche to become what I think is a reasonable price.

I think the PS3 should be <£300 even with all it's features..

I still laugh at the people that think the PS3 is more then a console..

1. Internet/Web surfing - the browser has many problems with many sites, especially streaming media, it's been very hit and miss for me..
2. Media playback - Out of the box, as a true media machine its shockingly bad, it plays none of my DVix/XVid TV Eps, popular HD download formats/container, it can't connect to a uPnP server to stream from a server, it can't connect to NAS/SMB shares.. all it can do is play MP3's'/DVD's/BR Disks, you have to really re-encode stuff..

Build quality, it feels cheap to me, the 'lid' covering the memory slots is dire... the outerplastic is shiny cheap plastic that flexes, the chrome trim looks cheap.. where do I stop..
on'
This gives me the opinion it's over priced..
