RF online and Dark and Light?

Are they still managing to survive and keep a server going? :p

RFO is pretty popular - I wouldnt class it as a flop.

D&L on the other hand... I am not sure it ever made it out of beta?

RF Online was terrible. Period.

Never played such a boring game in my life. I only wish I hadn't bought the bloody thing now /cry :p

I didnt say I liked, thought it was too difficult to get into. Doesnt mean its not popular and therefore not a "flop".

Unlike such games as Wish / Dark and Light.

What happened with Dark and Light is a disgrace and it just goes to show how bad it was when they're now making it free to play for three months due to the loss of customers over bugs.

RF Online I never could get into although it looked interesting from the magazine I purchased to get a guaranteed slot in the LotRO beta.

The problem with Dark and Light I found was that I couldnt get any kind of noob quest or find out how to play or what to do. The graphics were not too bad and the idea of the game itself sounded really good.

Except I would login and find I couldnt do anything as there was nothing to tell me how the "world" works etc...

Yeah, you're right there. Although I would personally consider it a flop as it started off with many subscribers, and now only the chronically hardcore grinders bother with it.

Was it just me, or was the game environment incredibly boring? Most games look great from the beginning, but RF Online was in a whole new league of terrible games. It took me about 45 minutes to figure out what the hell that place was supposed to be, and how the shops worked, and what the different colored items were all about.

I think I probably should have RTFM :o

What exactly happened? A quick synopsis would be lovely - just received a mail from them saying it was free to play for a couple of months & wondered what had gone on!

I hated RF-online. Cabal was quite grindy, but no way near as bad as RF. If you want to play a game like that, cabal is miles better..IMO. Sadly the open beta ended on the 28th if you havent tried it yet.

I'm still realy tempted to give RF Online a try, I just like the idea of it tbh and its only about a tenner online

Don't it's awful.

Do a search for "Rising force online" and you'll find my thread about it. I REALLY liked the look of it (You'll see how avid I was about it :o ) but eventually it just got pointless. The idea of mass PVP is great but it is simply a lag fest - NOTHING more. It's not fun at all once you get past the novelty of playing against a few big mechs etc. You'll see how my tone changed throughout the thread.

DNL is free to play for 3 months subscription wise but you still need to pay $40 to buy the key for the game. Something they have hidden rather well it seems as a lot have complained over that part of the deal being hidden.

I got slated as well by some of my old SWG guild when i didn't rate DNL and thought it wouldn't be a sucess. As i could see the way the game was going to go from away back at the start of the hype about the game, the lack of information and also that no copy of the game has ever been released to magazines to review.

So if you haven't read the DNL forums avoid DNL like the plague, as people can't cancel subscriptions and are charged when they shouldn't be, they struggle to get the money back and the communication from the devs etc. make SOE look the worlds best. For anyone else who played SWG and knowing how bad the communication was there, it is shocking anyone could be worse.

Got to level 45 and quit in RF. Nothing to do after that apart from a few battle dungeons, yippee......

wow thats quite impressive did u keep all your PTs up there aswell?

I got to 32 realised id never catch up with the noob gankers and I'd get owned until i got bored which happened about 2 days after lol..

So little content other than 1 sided PVP lag and grinding nonstop.

Yeah, kept my range quite low though because i never needed it, same with shield, never used it. I was a templar.

Ended up with GM Melee, 28 force (lol), 46 range, 52 shield and 79 defense.

Looking at the new Thunderdome Saldash event, or whatever it's called, 45 seems to be pretty low/average level these days :p

The grind is pretty much cured with Part 2. 5x PT and upto 7x XP. Then for the higher levels there is the new Elan area, plus the new mobs in Cauldron. GvG is pretty kick ass as well ;)
