I just read about splashtop which is this new kind of linux instant on boot setup which is built into the bios of motherboards, the bios memory has 512MB and you will boot into a mini operating system which is for quick photo and internet browsing and listening to music. It takes 5 seconds to boot and the bios is open source so the community can make apps to do more things through this mini linux OS. If you want to go into the full OS the boot time is 25 seconds. I was wondering if anyone seen xbmc under the apps in the 5 second instant on boot? This would be awesome!!!

Asus boards have this, I've never bothered using it though

I turned on ExpressGate (i think that's what it's called) to see what it was like and tbh it didnt really give me anything. It delays the boot up of Windows and isn't very functional.

Better to spend some effort optimising the startup of Windows.

Hmmm maybe someone can explain what I did the other day when booting my dell laptop. It brought up a Dell branded style media center almost instantly on startup, to quit it had to restart the laptop?

No idea how it happened.
