Hi all,

Heres the story. I bought an 04 corsa cdti around 4 weeks ago. The advert on the dealers website said it comes with FSH. Me being a muppet didn't check documentation till I'd bought the car and got it home. The history book is completely missing.

I have phones the dealer and they can't find it and have said they will call the previous owner.

Where would I stand with this? I have a copy of the advert placed and it shows the FSH part.

I do have the previous owners address, I might consider writing to him.

Id keep on to the dealer to make sure he contacts the previous owner, if he cant get the service book then id be wanting a refund from the dealer as if he said its got a FSH then thats what it should have with the book to prove it.
BTW if you know which garage has service it they should have a record but I dont know whether you will be able to get a new service book from them that has been stamped ?

It defo said FSH. I have a screen print of the advert with it on.

Also the fact I need to know when it was last services and when the belt was last changed.

Doubt I could get a refund though?!

wouldnt this go against the trade description act? if the advert says its got a FSH and they sold you it with out one then you should be ables to get your money back, id pop into the Citizens Advice and see what they say too. but keep at the dealers

Would the repsonsibility be down to me though to check before making the purschase?

Will give CAB a call.

Cheers

A lot of these sort of car ads have a small "may not be accurate" type statement at the bottom. I bought my Jag and it said it had cruise control, but when I picked it up, it didn't (didn't even think to try it, said it had it on the advert, so assumed it did).

Luckily the guy who had posted the advert had forgotten the disclaimer part and I got £250 knocked off the price. The owner was well miffed and said "well, we usually have something stating that the details are correct as far as we know it, but not guaranteed to be accurate, but fair enough, it's missing in this instance, so here you go..."

Now I check everything I can :)

Balls! Just found this on the advert.

The thing is the service book is missing completely. It is a seperate book to the main one. 65k miles with no service history ain't good :/

Then looks like all your left with is contacting the previous owner.

And nagging the hell out of the garage!

Andy

can they not check on thier service computer against the reg?
if it was serviced at a main dealer. thier computer should hold the records.
you can then get them to print out the job sheets. get a replacement service book, and ask them to complete it for all the services they did.

That's a very good point.

I'll try and contact the previous owner and find out which dealer he used.

Thanks

look at his location on the log book ;)
then look at yell.co.uk
then phone the dealer directly :D
you may even be able to go to your local main dealer and ask them

I would guess that the car would have been main dealer serviced as it would ahve been warrantied and most 'normal' people would just use a main dealer.

I sold my (from new) '04 Honda Accord a few months ago which didn't have the first service stamped in the book, and as the dealership had since closed down I called up Honda thinking they would have a record of the service and would be able to provide me proof.
I was told my Honda customer service department that there was absolutely nothing they could do - they don't hold a database of cars serviced (even from new and within warranty). I even spoke to a supervisor who confirmed this - in fact they couldn't be more unhelpful :(.
Luckily I managed to find my original invoice which proved I had the work done, but I was very unhappy at Honda for this.

Cue [TW]Fox coming in to say how he was able to call up BMW and they told him the full service history for all the cars he was considering purchasing...

;)

All three of my jeeps have a full service history on the computer, maybe its just the more 'prestige' marques?
I know Jeep is not prestige as such, but you get my drift.
