Anything specific to look out for on these cars? (E60/A6/A8)

Hi,

My old man is looking to chop in his E39 530d, and having slapped him when he mentioned 95 estates, and X5's, his shortlist is now as follows:-

E60 530d
A6 3.0 TDI Quattro
A8 3.0 TDI Quattro
A8 4.0 TDI Quattro
A8 4.2 V8 Quattro

All would be up to 5 years old, and max 50k miles. Budget of ITRO £18k / £12k to change. He originally wanted an estate, but they seem to command a ridiculous premium over the saloons, so that is all but out unless keenly priced.

Anything to look out for in terms of reliability issues / running costs, box's ticked on the options list etc? Anything else worth considering?

Any help appreciated.

50k miles might limit your options somewhat.

50k miles is going to prove problematic at this budget.

If he would consider an A8 4.2 then he really needs to think about a 530i - will be much easier to come by at his budget than a 530d.

What engine is the the 530i? Is it the same M54 that we have? When did the N52 get dropped into the 530i?
