Basically i want to lock my room from the outside to keep my prying family out it while i'm away. Any ideas of such a contraption?

Pretty sure you will need some kind of hole - how else will you be able to lock/unlock it?

I think your best option is a tiny webcam [about 30 quid for button sized ones in places] and set up your PC to monitor your room. If someone enters you can show them the evidence - should stop them coming in again :D

OT: What cooling do you have in your rig? 2.86GHz is impressive for a 4400+

Padlock?..... no hole required, attach the relevant loopy things and strap a padlock on.

Recording via webcam for hours or days will use up loads of space...... and will take you forever to sit through the footage.

Easiest way to check if someone enters the room at least once is to use a match, you know the kind you light things with. Put the match against the door as you shut it, so basicly the door holds half the match when its closed, generally because of the size when someone opens the door they wont notice the match fall of the floor or think to put it back.

You must be paranoid or really worried about something in your room to be asking though.

If its the PC you're worried about, then just setup a BIOS password, only 1 way i can think of getting round this, and most people don't know how.

Off topic - How does this relate to General Hardware if its not about the PC?

Pr0n quite obviously! (under the bed!) :D :D :D
Only, my folks actually request the stuff from me to spice up their bedroom manner with their current partners. :)

you need a big bolt on the door & a big magnet with enough power to slide it back thru the door thickness :p

Remove handle, retro-fit a form of central locking with an RF reciever, cover hole. Hey presto, remote central locking on your room. :D

You are going about this all the wrong way my man...

Leave your door wide open when you go out.. Not a care in the world..

It's all about the impression ;)

Wilkinsons do such a device for a few quid.

It is essentially a door chain... except that chain bit goes into a padlock type thing.

EDIT:

You dont need to drill holes.. use no more nails.

Beware gateway to hell
Step into this room and I will bunch you all in the oh

Varies what you wish to use to stop them I guess ;) :p

Why don't you just change the handle for one that has a lock built in, all that it would do is ensure the latch couldn't be opened?

you can get programs which turn your webcam into a motion detector and takes a pic only when it detects something ... so you can rumble them ...

mwahahahahahahahah *breathes* mhwahahahaha

So you want to lock your door but you can't replace the handle and don't want to affix anything to the door.

Is that right?
