Hi i am trying to help a friend out by setting up ics so he can run both his machines on the internet, his setup is quite basic 2 machines connected by a network cable with one machine on the internet via AOL and the supplied BT 105 modem.

Ok to start with he doesn't have the money for a router at the moment so that is not an option and he is running legal copies of XP home on both machines, so i have been trying for a couple of hours now and i just can't get the second machine to find an internet connection. I have done everything i can think of, i started with running the network setup wizard on both machines..nothing, tried setting everything manualy....nothing however both machines will see each other, ping each other and will see all shared folders and files so what the hell am i doing wrong it's driving me mad because every time i try anything on the second machine all i get is "the page cannot be displayed" error.

I would be greatful for any help please.

:)

with Windows xp its easy just do the network setup wizard and make sure there on the same workgroup, Home or MShome i think. then just click all sharing of internet and it should pick the connection up :)

Hi i have done that several times but the other machine still won't find an internet connection, it trys to and you can see it trying with the little network icons in the tray but it just won't go through :(

Hi,

Before i got a router/ap/modem combined i had the same sort of problems, that is until i found a little program called Proxyi

worked a treat with minimal set up required.

HTH,

Dave.
