Aol and why

think its an old hatred, but it used to be just.

You had to use there crappy software that took over your system and was unstable, and they had the worlds worst routing tables meaning online gameing was impossible (in the old days all traffic used to go to the usa and back making gameing pings 600+!)

Nowadays it's things like forced proxies, the odd bit of dodgy routing, extremely variable support, having to change MTU, no option but a dynamic IP. Inclined to say there's better value options if your usage isn't particularly high.

Going on this, they're certainly not the worse - but there's better.

They are unlimited though

Their dodgy browser...and weird settings as mentioned by tolien, the MTU etc affecting the access of somewebsites like banking ones with routers etc. I guess they are ok now, better than some atleast.

ahwell i got no real complaints theyve never been bad with me ...although i did hate the software but then the aol dialr cameout wasnt as bad ...dnt have it even installd now =)

<blunt>AOL unleashed a plague of hopeless idiots onto the internet</blunt>

Broadband that didn't connect until you signed into the browser (Now banished in favour of the dialer, but that's no better really), touch-and-go compatability with home networking (Although I believe this is now a thing of the past), appalling traffic routing (Used to be totally impossible for gaming) and customer service that leaves a lot to be desired. Plus you get laughed at whenever someone asks what your Internet Service Providor is!

They're unlimited, though :)

AOL was also used for the uprising of phishers with stealing details so theres a lot of squibbles about that..

i also use aol but dont install any of there junk on my pc just create a new dail up connection type 0,39 in and bobs yur uncle its slightly faster this way also and for my emails i use outlook couldnt be better :)

aol's service has gotten a lot better than it used to be, the main thing helped was changing their service so people can use adsl routers instead of their software.
