been banned for a while so finally getting around to doing this

Enter the sTRX4 socket and RTX40 Chipset !

remember 2nd gen Thread ripper cant be used on 3rd Gen Motherboards and vise versa

Gigabytes Flagship RTX40 AORUS XTREME !

https://www.gigabyte.com/uk/Motherboard/TRX40-AORUS-XTREME-rev-10#kf

16 phases via 16 channel PWM (Same as featured on X570 Master and Xtreme) unleashing 1120amps across the vCore and 210amps (3x70a) across the SoC.

Board is also 10 layer PCB

Finned heatsink on the VRM banks with small fan ( this time there is a vented area at the back of the IO shield!) The IO cover is also Aluminum and directly connected to the Heatsink for extra surface area and weight !!!!

Next in Line RTX40 AORUS MASTER

https://www.gigabyte.com/uk/Motherboard/TRX40-AORUS-MASTER-rev-10#kf

Features the exact same VRM set up as the Xtreme ( 16x 70a vCore + 3x 70a SoC) !!! but heatsink design is a set down in design and comes with backplate

Personally makes more sense over the Xtreme, specially if it means you get the same VRM set up but can spend the extra £200+ on pushing more cores for purchase

Nice to see Master also has vented IO shield !

And then we arrive at the Entry model RTX40 AORUS Pro Wifi

https://www.gigabyte.com/uk/Motherboard/TRX40-AORUS-PRO-WIFI-rev-10#kf

Key difference between its and its bigger brothers, ATX design and not EATX and also 12+2 phase design rather then 16+3.

It still retains the 16 pwm controller but only using 14 channels with 2 of those for SoC
12+70a = 840amps across the vCore and 2+70a = 140amps for the SoC

Just to hit home, the 2nd Gen Aorus Xtreme was a 10+3 Phase design equaling 500amps across the vCore and 150amps across the SoC. So the Entry TRX Aorus smashes the older designs along with added PCIe 4.0 support

https://www.gigabyte.com/uk/Motherboard/X399-AORUS-XTREME-rev-10#kf

downside and kicker... Boards will cost a BOMB! X570 Xtreme lists for £700 and that has half the PCIe 4.0 lanes, which is the main factor in costing, then the huge socket design!

@orbitalwalsh welcome back I thought you'd gone quiet :D

lovely 2 week ban and thread ban too boot haha

Wonder if they bring out a waterforce Version like they did with Z390 and the new X299X one, sure I read a while back they filed a trademark for it or something.

prob when higher then 32 core versions come out! gonna need it . With Intel platforms the client base was higher to do Waterforce versions. Maybe now with TR3 and Zen two, Aorus might do waterforce versions later or at least when Zen3 rocks out of the gates on 70nm+ :D

That’s cheaper than the X570 extreme.

Have a feeling the Pro will be cheaper , Master TRX40 would be slightly above and xtreme coming in at £1k

mmmm @tamzzy , can you notice something with ram slots that I have a feeling that would through everyone off installing 4 or more sticks on AORUS TRX40 boards?

Master or the Crossfire Hero, decisions. Any ETA on the master?

if your spanding a LOT of cash then Aorus - firstly for VRM design and secondly for UK Warranty and customer service . ASUS mobo is based in EU unless you grab from a rival reseller with 48h swap - though i think that will be limited with the amount of boards and the cost of them !

Both use 70amp units but seems ASUS sticking to its parallel design (ditches Doublers) and 8 channel PWM controller, with Aorus plugging 16 phases directly into 16 Channel PWM

@GIGA-Man might be best to give info generally when they might hit the shelves

***********************************

We have Australian pricing for the Motherboard now: $1599AUD ~ APPROX $1100USD - Gearseeker

Xtreme TRX40 about £1050-1150 maybe ? if X570 Xtreme is £700 with half the PCIe 4.0 lanes then makes sense .

Pricing as of filming is $929AUD ~ $600 - $650 USD
So Master very roughly is £606 straight conversion - which isn't going to happen and be cheaper then X570 Xtreme so would guessing £700-850

have a feeling the Master will be the go to for high core counts

Appreciate all the info.
That’s the one thing that bothers me about ASUS, customer service and non Uk returns. They have always seemed slow on drivers from previous boards I’ve had as also.

Vrm wise from YouTube reviews on the original revision even with the better they seemed neck and neck clocking wise. Maybe this will change with the new revision.

One issue I have with the Master is the limited 3.2 rear USB ports. For a £350+ board five is taking the proverbial. I do actually use a fair amount of USB ports. Seems picky but I see no reason for usb 2 on a back panel other than to save cost nowadays.

I was looking to pickup parts on Black Friday I doubt this will release this month so would mean a wait if I go for the Master.

USB 2.0 is used for quick flash and is linked directly to flashing chip. no need for expensive 3.0 controller etc . 5x 3.2 is nothing to sniff at- you dont get that with x299 boards now x399 :D

But i see where your coming from, Strix has 8 and Master has 5. Aorus has included a fan on their rear heatsink but this time around have venting holes to allow hot air to pass out. other vendors have done the same with a small 40mm fan at the back but have either added USB ports and the fan pretty much hits a wall. Seems Strix doesn't have internal USB C 3.1/2 to connect to front of case if yours has one

It's been suggested that PCIe 4 design has improved a lot since X570 came out and the board engineers have found a way to do without most of the retimers, bringing overall board price down. I doubt this means TRX40 boards will be cheaper than or the same as X570, but I don't necessarily see them being 50% more expensive.

Unless they're gonna get gouging :p

NICE! can see a lot of X570 Xtreme owners being a bit sour ! personally no need for it in trx40 or x570- master is good enough or the exact same with trx40

well... AORUS really have been shining in OCUK/toms books. @GIGA-Man , been treating them to steaks ? :D

https://www.overclock3d.net/reviews/cpu_mainboard/gigabyte_trx40_aorus_xtreme_review/1

will highlight, Gigabyte DID NOT HAVE latest AGESA update available Like ASUS and MSI did so hats off to them!

Aorus manages to keep VRM temps in line with ASUS whom have dual fans above the top bank (whilst aorus doesn;t) and MSI that have a heatpipe linking it to the chipset Fan . Would be interesting to see see how MSI would fair with PCIe 4.0 drives installed increasing the chipsets temps along with VRM heat being put on it

Looks like some adjustment is happening.

Asus ROG Crosshair VIII Formula was £600, Zenith II Extreme lands at £700, Formula is now £475 (and Hero WiFi drops from £430 to £350).
MSI MEG Godlike was £750, Creator lands at £680, Godlike is now £665.

Gigabyte X570 Xtreme hasn't moved from £770 but the TRX40 Xtreme is "only" £130 more.

aye, been pushing hard of those wanting X570 Xtreme to go for the Master- just as good, so much cheaper and allows funds else where !

My basket at Overclockers UK:
Total: £1,681.08 (includes shipping: £11.10)

Gigabyte do roll out newer versions of their board with .1,2,3 etc so hopefully see Xtreme 1.1 soon with revised tooling/manufacturing for PCIe 4.0 lanes to keep costs down like on TRX40 boards

i think X570 Xtreme are very low in stock - most likely stopped production a while ago

I'd personally go for the Master with TRX40 with either 32,48 or 64 cores . same VRM set up just not as fancy board. Good £360 cheaper and again that can push up to next CPU core count etc

My basket at Overclockers UK:
Total: £551.09 (includes shipping: £11.10)

have a feeling though this will be the high seller !
