Apparently there's a new GTX 1060 with GDDR5X...

So how much of a boost are we going to get from 5X over 5 if it's clocked the same? And a cut-down GP104? Presumably just because Nvidia aren't making 106s any more?

All seems a little unnecessary, and it'll cost stupid money too.
 
From what I saw and read on a few tech websites, the "new" 1060 GDDR5X is using 1080 boards with crippled GP104s. They have SLI connectors too, but it sounds like they're disabled/physically cut.

Looks like they're trying to get rid of old surplus stock.

Probably some of that 300k of stock they got lumbered with when the minming bubble burst...again.

No boost. Unfortunately the 1060 doesn't scale with bandwidth so well. We know this because they had already released 9gbps version some time ago and they performed identically to the regular 8gbps versions. Wish Polaris had better vram because that does scale greatly with improve bandwidth.
 
I feel I should crap on this card too since I'm completely unexcited by the 590. And certain people will be jumping to hit their "nv shill" button (special AMD keyboard it's next to return).

So... insert facepalm.jpg here. Another "meh" card to completely forget about. Bonus points if it's slower than the previous 9Gbps 1060 refresh. Wooo. Go team.

There's no way it will be slower than the first one. There wouldn't be any point in it unless of course GDDR5X is super cheap to make.
