65 quid for a smart case is a no go for my dad....Any other alternatives?

Picked up a 'Besdata' case from the rainforest for my son's old iPad 2.
Gets reasonable reviews and I was amazed at the quality. Looks really smart.
Assume they do a version for the Air 2 and might be worth a look.

The Air 1 smart cover works fine with the Air 2, some shops where selling them off at crazy discounts. But it's only the front cover, not sure if the full case would work as the back is thinner.

Makes sense on the Smart Cover.
The smart case won't work as the volume buttons are in a different place and the Air case is deeper.

Are the new ipads in stock at the stores yet? Is there anywhere where I can check stock?

John Lewis certainly have some models in stock for next day pick up (and I dare say certain stores will have some in today). Check their site.

I would also try PC World as they tend to re-stock quite quickly on the Apple stuff.

It certainly doesn't appear to be an iPhone 6 style sell out with the iPad Air 2.

I was all set to buy a iPad air 2 today. Until I played about with one at the Apple store in Edinburgh. God that speaker vibration is a deal breaker for me. Even at half volume you could really notice it on your hands. Since I watch a lot videos and listen to music on my iPad 3rd gen. It's made me reconsider. A good case would probably dampen it down. But it should not do it in the first place. I suppose this is the cost of making it thinner, but I'd have thought Apple would have put some sort of dampening in it to sort it.

It's not great it has to be said. I have the smart case on and it helps a bit but vibration is still there.
The improvements outweigh this one negative for me and it's kind of become a feature.

Hopefully with Air 3 they'll stop the obsession with thinness and realise that at some point it becomes counterproductive. Battery life, spec and usability are just as, if not more, important.

Went and got Air 2 on friday and i love it this is my first Apple device so im still figuring things out but so far its a really nice product, going to be using it for browsing the Internet, Gaming and some work so will hopefully fit in very well

Yes they do an Ipad Air 2 version Just ordered one off your recommendation for the Air 2 as i've been looking for a case but they all seem to be launched in the middle of November which is too far away, this case seems very good though esp for the money.

Picked up an Air 2 on Saturday and TBH I don't think it's that great - the vibration from the speakers is appalling (even with the Smart case) and battery life is abysmal - I reckon I'm gonna get 4-5 hours from pretty casual use (I use it on my commute to and from work so no surfing just reading and the odd game - this is with the sound off as I don't like wearing headphones etc. in public places. The user experience is very nice (compared to my old ipad 1) but too many sacrifices have been made to gain the reduction in weight etc.
I'm going to give it a few more days but it doesn't feel like over £500 worth of kit to me.

I'm used to the vibration now but it can be quite jarring at first. I tend to use the iPad with headphones if I'm out and about and at home I don't have the volume too loud.

I'm actually finding the battery life not much different to the Air 1. Perhaps I'm getting a little less life out of the Air 2 but not a major difference.
It's far better than the Note 10.1 I've been using.
